I had a TKR in my right knee at the end of October was discharged after 4 days usual pains and aches associated with knee replacement, but now after 7nweeks I'm up and about more I'm getting pain in both shins just above the top of my feet as you follow the big toe up . Feels like a bruise or that I've hit with something which I haven't. Has anyone else had this after aTKR. I have both R A osteoarthritis.

I’d speak with your physio and see what they say.

I experienced similar issues…..both my physio and consultant explained that it is due realignment and walking differently changes how the muscles are working. The consultant said that I would continue to experience aches and pains for a while after my hip and knee replacements.

Have you had your post op check up? If not, perhaps mention the discomfort then.

hi ive had both knees replaced twice now (first ones failed after 10 years). I’ve found it takes a very long time for your legs to recover and have minimal pain. It’s such a trauma to the leg and therefore needs the right balance of exercise, rest and ice applied. Doing too much too quickly or too little causes pain. I had at one stage alot of shin pain and tried sports massage. He was gentle but after 4 weeks of treatment, my legs felt so much looser and pain reduced. I took me about 6 months to 1 year each time for the knee to be settled, walking well and free of pain. No quick answers im afraid. Physio, a small walk and not too much standing each day is key. Hope this helps.

I expect you are putting more pressure on that leg supporting yourself whilst the other heals. I’ve had, and still do, referred pain from not being fully in balance. Have u ever seen a chiropractor? They can check your posture and how you carry your weight on your knees. They then give you exercises and can adjust you depending on your needs. I find it invaluable. I have had RA since a child do in most joints. Acupuncture is very good as well (done by chiropractor as well). Take care 😃

Thank you, I will look in to the chiropractor after I've spoke to my physio and see if shecl can recommend someone.
