hi I had a partial knee replace t on Tuesday. Had a bit of a rough time in hospital with vomiting most of Tuesday and Wednesday. Now at mums house and managing up and down stairs and small tour round the garden this morning. However I am exhausted and just sleeping non stop. Is this normal?

I don’t have any knowledge of joint replacement, but it’s only 2days since you had anaesthetic.

Hope you feel better soon

blimey, you only had the op on Tuesday so no wonder you’re exhausted, even more so if you’ve been vomiting. In my experience ops usually wipe me out for a few days afterwards. Look after yourself and don’t overdo things.

Sound like yours doing ok.

Don’t do too much though and be sure to do (but don’t overdo) all the physiotherapy exercises you’ve been given that is the secret to success. Make sure you ice your knee too. Someone in my Pilates group has just had a new knee and it took her a while to get back to normal.

She overdid it a couple of times - once when she went on holiday to somewhere with cobbled streets and the other time when she had a lot of visitors.

When my other half had his hip replacement he had a physiotherapist come to the house and she told him he had to lie flat out on the bed for an hour every day. I also got ice packs from Amazon that you twist to start freezing - I gave my friend who had had the replacement knee a couple to try and she bought more. They are good for keeping in your bag if you go out somewhere and feel you could do with a bit of icing - easier than, and not as messy as nipping in to Tesco for a bag of frozen peas.

You’ve just had an anaesthetic and a major operation plus there will be pain and possibly swelling so it’s not surprising you’re feeling a bit rough. You could always ask your surgery nurse. 💐

No wonder you're tired as you only had the op Tuesday. I've not had a knee replacement but both hips so take it easy and exercise gently

Yes! Give it time.

I am always as sick as dog after surgery. Different anaesthetists have different ideas about the cocktail of drugs they administer, but it doesn't make any difference they all make me sick for days and yes, I always feel drowsy and completely wiped out after surgery.

Sleep is an essential part of the healing process...allow yourself plenty of zzzzz time.

Best wishes for a good recovery ❤
