Aqua Fit and warm joints

Hi everyone. I’m looking for some thoughts on whether it’s ok to do Aqua fit ( I’m new to it 😃) or walking etc when my knee joints are warm. They aren’t hot and not swollen 🤞🤞🙏. Only 3 weeks into metho so a long time to go. I don’t go mad but I’d welcome you’re thoughts , thanks all xx

I do Aquarobics 2 or 3 times weekly. You may go feeling achy and tired and come out feeling much better. You can put in as much effort as you choose. Go for it

Thank you ☺️, just read so much that you should rest joints if warm and swollen but mine are just warm . Elbow and knees warm after this morning’s aqua but it was good xx

Aqua fit is fun the water feels good it gives support and the taking part with other people takes your mind off the pain and discomfort

Personally I find excercise in the water whether quality or swimming very positive. Hope it works well for you.

I would try the aquafit and if you enjoy it and it doesn’t cause more pain then carry on, if it doesn’t help then stop.

If you want to walk a set of Nordic poles used properly can take a lot of weight off your knees and hips - find a class where someone can teach you the proper technique though. If you Google nordic walking you will find links.

Like you say ‘just don’t go mad’.

When first diagnosed (and joints sore and swollen) I asked a rheumatology physio whether it was ok to do Aqua and she said to try it - if my muscles complained the next day it was ok, if my joints did it wasn't. I've been doing it ever since with no problems. I'm always deep enough not to put too much weight on my knees and occasionally wear a wrist splint if my wrist is sore. I also bought my own weights which are easier for me to hold than the ones provided at the pool.

I found pool running (aqua jogging) really helpful even when my knees made walking difficult. I’d go to the pool on crutches but happily be able to run lengths in the pool. I wear a flotation belt and do lengths for about half an hour. I’m fortunately just in remission and able to get back to my running routine but still do pool running as a bit of cross training. It’s really good for cardio vascular fitness and it feels so good to be moving especially when land based activities are painful. Give it a try!

Hey, delighted you’re in remission, well done. Thanks for all the tips. I went again yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it , I didn’t think I would . Great idea to pool run, I hadn’t thought of that 😊

So glad you are enjoying it HappyD34, I’ve been going twice a week for 3 years now as I LOVE it & feel wonderful when I’ve done it. I seem to be able to do any movement in the water without pain & the water stops you from doing too much & im coping so much better with my RA now 😃x
