Hi. I have RA & eye conditions. I’ve just got over another UTI infection. Rang my gp surgery. The bloody useless receptionist wouldn’t make me an appointment, unless it was urgent. I have a 6 weekly infusion. She should have given me an emerg app. She said pharmacists are now allowed to prescribe antis. I went to Boots. Told the pharmie my infusion stuff. But because of that. She wouldn’t give me the antis. She was annoyed with the recep. Said she should have given me an app. Frustrating. Anyway. Your dr should be the one that prescribes the antis. We have health conditions on here. But we’re not medically trained. I’ve been on quite a few over the yrs. (Haven’t we all??) Can’t remember what i was given. I just know they worked. A UTI can make you feel awful. Obviously can spread to your kidneys too. I had 2 very painful kidney stones. Could hardly walk. Sorry i can’t remember which anti i was on. But your gp’s the one you should be contacting.

the last uti I had I had the same issue and was sent between the gp and pharmacy for hours. All saying the gp should have seen me and felt with it as it would have saved everyone time. The gp can prescribe the right antibiotics for the meds you are on. But you need to explain to receptionist that you are on medication that means you need to be seen today and you’ve spoken to the pharmacy and they can’t help because it’s not straight forward

It’s not the meds your on which are important but the type of infection.

The issue I had was that the pharmacy can prescribe antibiotics but only for straight forward types of uti. Because of the medication I am on it limited the type of antibiotics I could have and it was the second I’d had in 4 months so the pharmacy couldn’t help

I use Hiprex instead of antibiotics. But it’s from the consultant. It seems to work. I have Ecoli from a hot tub years ago nothing apart from Gentamyacin works but Hiprex controls it. X

You must not self diagnose a kidney infection but must go to get an investigation and treat with the correct antibiotic. You’re putting yourself at huge risk as for instance Cefalexin doesn’t work for Ecoli but Fosformyacin does. Even then not always. A kidney infection is rare but a UTI common and these days plenty of fluid will usually let it clear up by itself as too many antibiotics are used aren't needed which builds up resistance. I’m not medically qualified but you must seek qualified advice because an AKI caused by a UTI although rare is life changing and life threatening. I’d say you need to call 111 or go to A &E if your passing blood and have a temperature etc. Sorry to frighten you but Pharmacies don’t dispense antibiotics to older ladies so ask 111 to get you an appoitment with GP.

couldn’t get in to see my GP for 2 weeks busy. So went into a walk in clinic and he gave me a prescription.

so I asked him if he would give me a requisition to my urologist and he did so she called me yesterday and I’ll see her today. Thank you
