I am currently taking MTX and COSENTYX, I all was great earlier in the year but now am experiencing pain and numerous joints . Consultant has suggested trying leflunomide. I understand this is a once a day tablet, taken at the same time each day. Is there a good time to take it to minimise the side effects?
Leflunomide : I am currently taking MTX and COSENTYX, I... - NRAS
Leflunomide
in the evening but for me the side effects were awful for a few days then it seemed to do little, then I woke up one morning and the RA had gone into remission and stayed that way for years. It was by far the best RA medication I’ve had but it sadly is not the same for all. I hope you give it a try and good luck.x
I totally agree with you. I have stayed on leflunomide for many years and I had just about a normal life. I'm on consentyx now and they will be adding methotrexate in October and I'm dreading it since methotrexate normally drains every bit of energy from my body. If I cannot cope with methotrexate, I have already discussed to swap it with leflunomide. Good luck and I hope it works Gilliancheche
Thanks, I only know one person who has tried it but she gave up after a month due to side effects. I realise it might take a while to get benefits.
I take it every morning and forget about it. No side effects worth mentioning for me but appreciate not everyone is so lucky. I was taking it in addition to MTX and felt quite good but had to swap the MTX for Yuflyma because of liver issues. Good luck, hope it works for you x
I wasn’t told when exactly to take it but I take it in the morning . I have never taken Methotrexate for the LVV which I have and have been taking it as a DMARD for just over 3 years. Side effects have not been a problem, just rather loose bowel movements which apparently is quite common!
I hope it works for you too. Good luck.
I take my every morning with breakfast. I’ve not experienced any side effects from it.
I take it at night with dinner and have no side effects that I know of. Works well.
Hi Gillian
I was on methotrexate and it bothered my tummy, pills and injections. I moved on to Embrel and others. The Leufludimide was great for me except for a rise in blood pressure so I’m not on it anymore but it was convenient, only one side effect and I seemed to lose weight which I was happy about. Everyone is different on this journey, with different reactions to all these drugs so I hope you have Good Luck with it. 👍
