Smart Watch recommendations please, more for safety than fitness? Doro perhaps?

I'm trying to find a simple Smart Watch that links to an Android mobile phone rather than an Apple iphone but they all seem to focus on fitness and the choice is bewildering. Ideally I'd like one that shows who's ringing me and has a GPS alert button if I need help or fall over, preferably without a monthly subscription. Has anyone has any experience with Doro, the Swedish brand of simplified phones, they look promising? Thanks in advance

My husband has an Apple because he has an implanted heart monitor that talks in live time to his Cardiologist team. But the company who makes them in America of course is working with Apple and by the Spring it’ll be linkable to his watch. So he won’t have to carry around 2 phones. It also records BP, pulse, heart rate and exercise done for his team. They love them as no need for paper they just take his readings. Might be worth the investment or ask Apple if they do second hand or check out your local iSmash store. Apple gave us £85 for trade in for new iPad the other day. They are usually really helpful and will set up for you and reset computers if trading old one in so they go to Third world although ours we asked for back to send it to Ukraine.

PS I’ve never heard of a phone that remotely calls but all mobiles usually have a memory so you can ring 999 easily if it’s an emergency. And I do wonder if you’re referring to the call system my mum had on a lanyard. It did have a fee though.

Thanks so much for your helpful reply and for taking the time to explain how it works. All paths seem to lead back to Apple it seems!

They could rule the world ! But at least the geeks are really helpful and when I got hacked it apppeared last year and my son was on holiday the lady in California sorted it, checked no access to personal records had been acquired and it’s free. It was a scam as it’s nearly impossible to get into a Mac I’d just had a message that looked like a hack in the hope I’d respond. So I just email them as they say never click on a link to get help and they get back quickly and use your mobile to guide you to check what’s happened. So easy to use and the watches do look cool….

"They could rule the world" ... pretty close anyway. I've got an Apple Watch for the heart function and now my Apple AirPods will serve as backup hearing aids, recently medically approved. We pay more for Apple products initially, but they're less costly long term. My desktop is from 2015 and it still works perfectly.

My old Mac from many years ago was so old it could not update anymore so we thought let's get a new one. Apple very kindly cleaned it and and gave it back so I could send to Ukraine via a lady locally whose brother is there still. It still worked very well. I've always found yes a bit more expensive but updates free, they all talk to each other and very secure. I use the photo facility and did a few big expo's for church and parish so vital as so easy. My husband is same for his heart. And the consultants use them to check function now. The implant should be able to talk to his iPad and phone and watch soon. This would have been science fiction just 10 years ago makes me wonder about next 10. My husband remarked recently that if the NHS had used Apple they might not be in such chaos after all the Consultants use them or iPhones ! Checking symptoms on iPhones is now common it seems and we did ask my GP was he looking at Google he said no Renal recommendations for this medication. lol I still think it was Google. x

PS we've even got Apple light bulbs as they can be turned on remotely; we did it from Cypress and France they change colour and show house occupied as don't need a timer. And it was different rooms as well. Not expensive but a great idea.

I understand that not all of the facilities of the Samsung watch work with non-samsung phones. A small caveat

I have an Apple Watch and it’s great as I need it to detect falls. A few years back I had a bad fall involving slippy grass, mud and a wall. I was laying outside in the mud and rain for ages as my knee went underneath me and I bashed my arm on the wall. Nobody was home so I had to get myself up and haul myself into the kitchen covered in mud!! After that hubby bought me the Apple Watch with fall detection. It’s linked to my phone so I can call 999 if I need to.

I hope you can find a reasonable watch that connects to your phone. I know Fitbit watches are more advanced now but not sure if they detect falls. Hope you are able to find something xx
