I’m now a very excited and proud owner of an all bells & whistles mobility scooter. It is one I can take on the roads although I won’t be doing that very often. It’s going to give me so much more freedom to get out and about as I can only walk short distances and even so, am in constant pain & discomfort plus I find it exhausting. I’m desperate to be able to give my lively dog some proper exercise and so far, this is ticking all the boxes. I always used to rent a self catering cottage for myself and my dog but haven’t been able to do this since 2022. I know it’s possible to buy wheelchair adaptive vehicles with a lowered floor and ramp, so I suspect there must be adapted vehicles available for mobility scooters. I live alone so it would have to be a system I could manage easily on my own, particularly as my spine is in a fragile state so I can’t lift or twist. As always, you wonderful forum members are a treasure trove of knowledge, wisdom and advice so Thanks In Advance for suggestions etc! 😀🐶

Help please; recommendations for an adapted car for my mobility scooter.
have many a happy days with your scooter! Something I am starting to look at.
I don’t know anything much about them but I have seen people who have a sort of lift inside their tailgate to lift and swing their scooters into their vehicle. If yu could find out about that it might suit you. Maybe this site will help you wavsgb.com/cars-suitable-fo...
Enjoy your freedom.
we have just had a hoist put in our car boot for my husbands power chair and my scooter. Just a normal Toyota Yaris cross so not a huge vehicle. We can manage it very easily without any strain
We used Mobility in Motion/Auto Chair. Lovely helpful people and a really neat job
Have you looked at Motability ? They should be able to advise you as I’m sure it will depend on your scooter size/weight etc as to which car is suitable. Another option would be to ask where you bought it as they might know of local people to advise you.
How lovely for you and your little dog , I do hope you can get some enjoyable days in the parks, let’s hope the sun comes out for you . No more rain !!!!
Hi. I hope your scooter gives you the freedom that it has for my mum. She's had one for years! She has had a couple of cars with a hoist fitted. Most main dealers have a Mobility specialist who can give advice on the headroom required in the car to accommodate a hoist. Sometimes it's not about the size of the vehicle as such, more the headroom. The hoists are amazing, you simply attach it to the anchor points on the scooter and press the button! Enjoy!
If you have the higher rate pip/DLA then you could go through motability for a car with a hoist. You will then be off all round the country with dog in tow.
How's the dog with walking besides the scooter?
I’m not officially disabled therefore receive no disability benefits, I can walk, but only short distances or my spinal stenosis becomes so intolerably painful, I can’t and should not push on…..hence the scooter to enable us both to range further afield. Meg seems to love accompanying me and behaves beautifully whilst walking, trotting or running (which she really loves, Spaniel ears flying). Thanks for replying and your suggestion.
She must love being with you and you'll both enjoy your long walks. The joists can be fitted to most cars spots worth getting a quote
look on Amazon…there are quite a few on there!
already searching there! Thanks AC.
A question, do you receive the higher mobility allowance of PIP, if so you are entitled to a Motability vehicle to suit your needs x
