Metoject pen

I had my first Metoject injection last Saturday. I felt awful all weekend and then, on Tuesday, this happened - see pic - I went to A& E and they really couldn’t have cared less. I ended up leaving after 9 hours as they extended the waiting time by another 3 hours and I just didn’t have it in me, it was 5.30am and my body was one big ache. I spent yesterday in bed, in and out of sleep all day. I’ve now got a cold and cough and still feel dreadful - has anyone else experienced this?

What are we looking at here.? Your eye seems fine,

Haven’t experienced what you’ve had but sorry you’ve had a bad time and hope you're feeling better by now.

Looks like you’ve a burst blood vessel which can happen to anyone and may be nothing to do with your recent injection. If it happens again then it’s worth going to your GP or an optometrist to get it checked but it may be that you’ve been coughing excessively with a cold and this is why.

Hi

Had it happen in my diseased eye a couple of years ago but it cleared up in a week or so. Assumed it was just part of the uveitis or that I'd maybe rubbed it too much or something.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you for responding and I’m now back in hospital and have just tested positive for Covid, which explains how naff I’ve been feeling. They’re still concerned about my eye and I have to be seen by an ophthalmologist tomorrow so they’re keeping me in until he gives me the ok.

I definitely didn’t rub it as it just got really painful and tight and when I liked in the mirror I had a what looked like a blood blister - it’s just spread around my eye a bit now.

Could it be COVID?

I had very red eyes - but not this bad- once I stopped the methotrexate and had a bad flare - spoke to the rheumy nurse who told me it’s just part of what’s going on - I interpreted that as systemic inflammation. Once I’d had a steroid injection it cleared up quickly. But did find I need to use eye drops as my eyes felt like they had grit in them and were very gunky.

It has taken me so long to wean off steroids that I really don’t want that to be the only option. I wonder how strong my conviction will be if that IS the only option though 🤷‍♀️

I’ve had this a few times and the first time I was really worried as it was quite soon after I had an operation called a trabeculectomy for glaucoma. Here they cut a flap in your eye beneath the upper eyelid which they leave open to release pressure and it’s called a bleb. Of course I thought the blood pooled under the outer layer was caused by the operation or the bleb and still think it was connected but when I went to Eye casualty, like you, they were unconcerned and said all was well. My eye was really sore too. I had the bleeding a number of times in the following 3 or so years but but not in recent years though I continue to have the soreness. I do have very dry eyes though. I hope this is just the one time for you.

It's a burst blood vessel, nothing to do with metho , quite common

As others have said, it's a burst blood vessel. I had a few of these, the last one being worse than yours! I realised that it was happening every time I took ibuprofen. GP measured my blood pressure which turned out to be very high. Apparently, ibuprofen can increase blood pressure in some people. Perhaps worth getting your BP checked (although I would hope the hopsital have already done that).
