So proud I did Benepali in my tum!

Well for weeks I've been pondering doing my Benepali jab into my tummy instead of thighs but have been scared to. I did it just now. No pain at all! I'm so proud of myself 😁 at least I now have another site I can do it besides just my thighs. The right thigh still really hurts when I do it there so I'm a happy bunny ☺️

I was on Etanercept for well over 10 years and almost always used my tummy, because it was harder to do it in my thighs. M now on Cimzia and have so far I haven’t used my thighs, but will use them next week.

Hi Haz58, Well done! Can I just ask if, when you did your jab into your tummy, whether you took a large pinch of flesh or smoothed it into a flat area to do the jab? I’m also on Benepali and haven’t been brave enough to use my tummy either. I often get a large bruise from the needle or a slight reaction when I use my thigh. The left thigh is always very painful too - I have to grit my teeth! I use the flat area method but I have skinny legs so don’t know if that’s the reason it hurts. I used to have a Metoject pen and always used to use my tummy (with a pinch), it was very quick and painless. The Benepali seems a bigger needle and a slower release. Both the hospital and the doctor have given me conflicting advice on how to administer but I’m trying to pluck up the courage to have a go!

I stretched the skin Kariss. I don't have a flat tummy, fairly solid, I'm 2 stone overweight so have padding let's say 😊 I stretched it while sitting. I was amazed I didn't really feel it at all. No blood, I usually get a drop on my legs, and no red bump that I usually get on my right leg. I didn't give myself time to think about it like I usually do and get worked up anticipating the pain. Just wiped let it dry and bang it was done. X

Thank you for the advice, (and to everyone else too!) I definitely think I will have a go using my tummy now - my legs are getting tired of being used as a pin cushion! From what people are saying I reckon you can do it either way so now I have options. It’s great to have first hand advice! 😊

I’ve been on benepali for 7.5yrs, and exclusively use my tummy. I found some of the thigh ones excruciating, and as you say it’s completely painless in the stomach. I alternate which side I use.

Yes I'll alternate too. X

I use my tummy all the time, just a small prick of the needle and it's over!I bunch up my belly and inject, there is a lot to bunch up! Hahaha I take injection out of the fridge the night before. Good luck and go for it in the tummy so much less painful.

I've been like that since I started it in November. But I just thought you only have to do it once, if it hurts too much go back to your legs. I hope you get to be able to try it pammi it was far better for me. X

I'm another one who finds it virtually painless in the tummy compared to the thighs. Seriously, I would give it a go.

Well done - when I was on adalimumab the Sciensus nurse encouraged using the tummy rather than the thighs as it was easier and not so sore

Well done, that's great! Totally identify with this! I inject methotrexate and the pens have just changed so they no longer have a button and you don't pinch the flesh to inject - just press straight in. Although I'd been happily (well, ish) injecting into my belly with the old pens I couldn't quite bring myself to use the new ones in my belly, but did this weekend for the first time. It's good to have another area available for rotation isn't it, and it didn't hurt at all. So glad you've now got a less painful option for your Benepali :)

Well done. I’ve always done mine in my tummy. Strangely I can’t imagine doing them in my thigh. Mine legs are skinny & no fat on thighs. I scrunch up a bit of fat. It does occasionally sting even though I leave it out of the fridge for an hour before. Occasional small bruise. I’m on Abatacept not Benepali.

Yes I got a text the other day. They called me this evening but as I’m abroad we lost the signal & they didn’t call back. Maybe they will try again tomorrow.

You have inspired me😀. I am due to inject Benepali on Wednesday, will start from now building up the courage to inject in my tummy. The thigh is so painful 😭, wish me 🤞

I wish you luck but honestly you won't need it. I was amazed by the difference doing it on my tummy as opposed to my legs. Let me know how you get on. X

Oh well done. It's quite a mental block you've overcome. I swapped from the thigh some time ago as I have skinny old-lady legs and more podge to aim at on my tummy. It doesn't hurt, seldom bruises or bleeds. Result!

Very well done! I find the thigh far too painful and always use my tummy. I'm on etanercept, though, and so has a longer needle. Impressed you use the thigh
