So here I am, lying on the bed in a villa in menorca. My T9 compression fracture is back in pain with avengence! Saw doc on 2nd day here but pain killers he gave me are no good. So messaged him today asking for morphine to get me through 2 more days and flight home on Sunday. Don't know what I'll do if he says no. Poor hubby is so fed up. 3rd holiday in 18 months and 3rd holiday at the doctor's or hospital. We're not doing this again. Will be back to a & e on Sunday to try and get this sorted once and for all. Hubby took the pic when he escaped for a walk.

that is so discouraging for you both. It’s bad for you, being in hospital ,trying to sort stuff out.

Your husband,it’s so difficult for him.

I’ve told mine to go away on his own,but he said it’s not a holiday being on your own in restaurants, resorts etc, quite apart from the extra cost of being single.

We’ve not been abroad for 5 years.

The last time we went it was nice, but I did struggle.

I’ve managed to come to terms with it.

The complications of travelling with oxygen plus the rest of my symptoms and the back pain have just made it not feasible.

I really hope the DOC will supply you morphine x

He gave me some yes. 😊 Helping with the pain already, took the stabbing off it anyway. 🤞 I can at least sit on a chair for a bit now. X

What rotten luck. I hope you manage to get some morphine in time for your your journey home and you get the good stuff from A&E.

Hi Haz

Sorry to read this it is very difficult for your both, especially when you have looked forward to a well deserved and needed holiday!

I loved my holidays and have been lucky enough to travel abroad Pre RA and Since being diagnosed and hope to do it again but I've been really put off while I've been like this , my Hubby has just had a big birthday so I booked somewhere in the UK that had something for all the family to do and fishing for him, we haven't had the weather but it's been a nice break.

I hope you can get something sorted for the next couple of days and the journey home. X

Hi 3littlebirds, we've always loved our hols in the sun but I guess they're comes a time in life you just have to accept it's not worth it. We'll find other things to do I'm sure. A change of scenery and four walls is good. I got morphine tabs this morning and helping already. X

oh no not what a holiday is about! It’s so hard trying to do away things as it can for some be fraught And therefore not relaxing for anyone! Hope medications and flight home go ok as can be.

I am so sorry you have to give up on your holidays abroad. I have the same issue but fortunately we did a few big trips before RA. Just don’t have the stamina anymore! I guess we just have to count our blessings we are still mobile and can take short trips.

Indeed 😊 that's what I've told hubby. Life isn't over just because we can't go abroad again. Thankfully he's a diamond!

Have you seen a physio & been given some exercises?I too have compression fractures at T11/12 & I have found doing the exercises regularly for nearly 3 years really does help….so much so that just Ibuprofen & Paracetamol cope.

I'm going to make an appointment when I get home. I have been doing some that I was given after I did it. I'm beginning to think my back doesn't like flying.

Could well be…aircraft seats were made for tiny people with short legs & well padded bottoms…and guaranteed to cripple the rest of us …for however long our holidays last!

What a bummer! Apart from the stress of going and coming back on holiday your stress has met in the middle with misery. Sometimes when you’ve been through all that you’ve gone through now it’s better to admit that staying here is less of a hassle than being over there…….

Do hope your back pain eases - there’s not much worse for making you have an ‘oh f*** it’ day - and once you’re home on Sunday and you can get the pain properly under control you’ll hopefully be much better.

All the very best to you X

The doc here gave me morphine and after 2 tablets yesterday it actually feels a lot better this morning! 1st time I slept last night for a week. It was bliss! So not freaking out do much now about the flight home on Sunday. Just wish he'd had given me it on Tuesday like I asked him to!

Hopefully the morphine will keep you going so you and hubby can have a better last couple of days of your holiday and get you through the flight home.

Sorry to hear this Haz. Maybe abroad might be too much for you now but there are so many beautiful places to visit in the UK so please don't give up on holidays altogether. You and your lovely husband can make new holiday memories...just a little closer to home. Hope you feel a little better soon. x

That’s such a shame Haz58 😔😔. I’m glad the doctor gave you some morphine to get you through. Our partners do deal with a lot with us having RA and other conditions. We are not going abroad as we don’t want to leave our pup in kennels, he’s such a sensitive dog! We would both worry about him so we are going to book a cottage in the UK in September. Hope your trip home goes okay and you are able to get sorted when you get back to the UK 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I’m sorry you’re struggling it sounds really painful. It’s bad enough being ill at home but not what you want while on holiday. Glad the morphine is taking the edge off things. I’ve been hospitalised a few times abroad with various infections & not a lot of fun for either of us. Although he rarely complains just happy to read a book. Take care on the flight home x

Thank you Otto11. It's been nice having warmth and a change of scenery. I'm back to being able to look on the bright side with the morphine 🤗

Last time we went abroad we caught Covid (nightmare). Now have bitten the bullet and going to Sorrento on Tuesday. Stress levels mounting.🤞 What happened to that carefree traveller of yesteryear? If only we had better Summers here. Hope you can enjoy a few warm pain free days before return home. I think it's a bit like child birth (or so I'm told). At the time you scream Never Again. But time passes and you think maybe again?
