Mycophenalate mofetil side effect - leg and abdo pain?

Hi fellow travellers........

I have been on MMF for just over a year. I have constant leg pain that varies from mild to strong with abdominal pain that also fluctuates. Particularly noticeable on waking. Various investigations can find nothing underlying and a wondering if this is a MMF side effect? Both muscle and joint pain are listed as side effects? Anyone else on MMF having a similar experience?

I know nothing about mycophenelte.l.but if you get discomfort after lying down at night,it could be some sort of reflux that is causing your discomfort.

Have you mentioned that to your doctors?

Thanks for the suggestion. I do have reflux and take medication for it but it is lower down that you'd expect from just reflux and the radiating pain down my legs and swollen knees suggest it's not any acid/stomach/barrett's type symptoms.

Is that a statin? I’ve never heard of it but my GP is trying to get everyone over 50 on them. I spoke to Nephrologist who said I could but as no blood pressure and not diabetic then he’d support my decision to say no thanks. I only mention this as he said if I did take them be aware of risks and muscle pain can be awful. Apparently muscle pain is common and if acute the GP must be made aware.

Mycophenalate is an immune suppressant, an alternative to methotrexate which sent my bloods wild. I am also on statins which could be the cause or at least an interaction. A CT scan and 3 MRIs later still no idea of what's causing it which is hard to deal with. I like reasons for why things are happening but I guess in the auto immune world that's unrealistic.

I think ask your GP asap.

I’m the same. I like reasons for symptoms and struggle a little with being told that they can’t find anything wrong, when you clearly feel it.
