Sore throat side effect?

I’ve been on a starter dose of 7.5mg Methotrexate since before Christmas with no side effects , but suddenly got a sore throat that I wake up with this week . It wears off during the day and I forget about it till the next morning. I’ve just looked up the side effects and it says a sore throat but I don’t think I’ve ever read anyone else mention it on this forum. Has ithos happened to anyone else?

I’ve also often had a bit of a sore throat in the days after I take MTX (15mg) - the type of sore throat that feels like the start of a cold. It doesn’t always happen, is not especially painful but is still there nonetheless. It goes away after a day or two, but it freaks me out because I really hate having the cold! I don’t have any other side effects either. Hope this helps!

Yes, mine feels like the sort you get when you are starting a cold. I’d heard about the nausea but not sore throat so thought I’d been really lucky to not get the nausea. Thanks.

It's not something I've ever experienced but I've been on it a long time. With you being new to it I might think about giving your Rheumy helpline a call, just so the nurses know. They'll decide if it's anything to be bothered about I'm sure.

I got frequent sore throats on methotrexate with both the tablets and injections. As you're new to the drug though it may be something that'll settle down given time. I agree with nomoreheels advice to give your rheumy team a call.

It's also worth noting there's a virus going round right now which starts with a sore throat and turns to a cold after over a week. A lot of people I know have had it.

I've been on methotrexate for years and always get a sore throat the day after it does wear off till next injection. No nausea or other side affects thank goodness. X

I've been taking MTX for a couple of years now. When I first started taking MTX my consultant told me that if I developed a dry persistent cough that I was to stop MTX immediately. To then go to my GP and request a chest x-ray.

He made no mention of a sore throat. But if it were me I would seek medical advice and put your mind at ease.

Thank you , I think it’s turning into a cold as I’ve started sneezing . This is my second one since Christmas so not happy. I will ring the nurse on Monday morning though just to make sure.
