LEG PAIN

I have had RA for about 10 years. I also broke my femur in my right leg and it is now pinned. My leg is often so painful I find it difficult to walk even with a frame. The pain can be from my hip passed my knees (both have had replacements. I don’t know if the pain is caused by pinned femur, R A or possibly sciatica. I would like to have a steroid jab. Has anyone found this works?

I did have an X-ray on my hip a couple of weeks ago but trying to get the result of this is seeming to be difficult!!

You’ve been waiting ages for relief from that, saw your post a few weeks ago. Are your docs not taking it seriously? 🙂

I also broke my femur, neck of femur and 3 other fractures. That was in Nov 2017 and it was pinned and nailed, it was very painful and despite having home ultra-sound for 6 months it still didn't heal. After a year I was in crippling agony, one of the nails are snapped as well, so in February this year had a 2nd op which solved the agony by having it plated and a bone graft, I have been on 2 crutches and only partial weight bearing and hydrotherapy but I am at last in the words of my consultant "healing but not healed" and at long last can start doing proper physio and weight bearing. But I do hope you have a better journey but keep smiling and I've had loads of support by the NHS and family so hope you do too.

So not as positive as you would like but there is light at the end of the tunnel, and everyone heals differently. Good luck x

Thank you for your reply. It is so frustrating trying to get an answer from anyone! I am in so much pain with my leg. I am now told to see my GP. THat will be a 3 week wait, this is to rule.

out other causes such as sciatica. Just spoken to rheumy nurse who said see GP my problem could be RA, sciatica or broken femur.

I have also asked to have a steroid injection.

Were you signed off by the fracture clinic? I have been followed up every step of the way and my consultant has always seen me himself and taken a personal interest which is so reassuring. My GP has also been brilliant it just shows how differently the NHS can work in different areas.

I can only keep my fingers crossed for you that your GP can get the help you really need.

The consultant I saw after I had my leg done, was not very good. Didn’t even X-ray my leg and spent a lot of time on his mobile phone! He just said walk more. Today I heard from the rheumy nurse via rheumatologist that the rheumatologist thought it was an orthopaedic problem. Go and see my GP.

ALL VERY UNSATISFACTORY.

That’s terrible I think you have reason to complain. Hopefully your GP will refer you back to the hospital and you’re see a more sympathetic consultant
