does anyone on here take famotidine when taking steroids instead of omeprazole,and do they have any side effects.Also has anyone tried to get g.p. to prescribe enteric coated 1mg preds when having to take 4 a day.thankyou.x

I believe it’s in short supply so it’s often Cimitidine. That is awful tasting, no other side effects just vile stuff.

Hi, I asked my Gp recently for pred 5mg enteric coated, as I had had them before a few yrs ago. After a bit of to and froing between the practice pharmacist and doc and me, as I had asked on my repeat px form for them they prescribed them for me, so do ask 👍👍

G.p. Would not change them but seeing another g.p.in a few weeks and will try the face to face approach!

Hi Doodlereggie. Not been on Famitodine but Nizatidine which is very similar and hasn’t caused any side effects - been on it for a few years now.

With regards to Pred 1 mg I’ve never had those as enteric coated tabs as I think they’re quite rare! The others are all coated but for some reason the 1mgs aren’t and it is a nuisance when you’re tapering and using them. I have this problem every time my pred dose is tweaked but there seems no solution.

You could try asking your pharmacist if they can get any from somewhere otherwise keep taking the Famotidine!

Thanks for reply,as you always do,much appreciated,will try pharmacist,as she is very good.will also start famotidine at weekend,as others on here say no side effects.I always read the negative reviews and think myself into the same !Bad habit,as never turns out to be true,as it happens !

Hi, I was prescribed Famotidine instead of Omeprazole for my hiatus hernia - 20mg twice a day. I took one this morning and about 2 hours later, I had a stonking headache! I read that this can happen. I took paracetamol and have had to keep that up all day; it keeps creeping back. I am reluctant to take another Famotidine tablet this evening. With the job I do, I can't function with a headache - I teach. I might have to retry another time. Has anyone had headaches with Famotidine? I'd so, did they subside?
