Nose sores

Good morning,

Can anyone tell me what you do for nose sores. I've had one at the inside tip for weeks. They come and go but when they come they last for weeks. They've been coming more frequently too. I'm at a loss of how to heal this. I was diagnosed with Lupus SLE, Sjogren's and MCTD. Is it the Sjogren's that's causing this or a mixture of all? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi Tessie62. Mine may be different to yours but I've been getting them for several years now usually at the very top of my nose on one side. My GP prescribed Naseptin cream which is an antibiotic and disinfectant and you can only get it on prescription but I don't know if you have it in the US. Mine bleeds, sometimes quite a lot, but it has been quiet for some time now. Have you asked your doctor to take a look - he/she may prescribe something for you. Good luck - it's quite an unpleasant thing to have for sure.

Springcross, Yes. That's how mine behaves too. Only on the left-upper-tip-side of my nose. It hurts to blow, and tidy up the whole nose. I'll mention the issue with my doctor the next time I see her. Maybe she'll prescribe something similar. Thank you so much.

You're welcome. Yes, speak to your doctor as there must be something for it in the US. I spoke too soon when I replied to you as the very next day mine started bleeding again!! xx

Oh dear. I hope I didn't jinx you. 😏

No, not at all - it happens like that, just when I think it's behaving, off it goes again!! 🙄

I get nose sores inside the tip of my nose too. I thought it was some sort of a pimple but then when it was repeating thought maybe it was psoriasis. I used some Protopic. My doctor also gave me some cream with 1 percent cortisone which we can buy in Canada without a prescription. I haven't used it yet but will try it next time.

Thank you Smilelines for your response. I may need to try that. I actually have some numbing gel left over from another script I use when it's really unbearable. It's probably not the right thing to do but until I can get a proper...

Yes, I get these also and quite often. I’m pretty sure it’s the Sjogrens that causes them. I use an antiseptic on them, but they are a nuisance.

I will mention it to Rheumy team next time I’m reviewed.

Thank you Brushwork. As will I too mention it to my Rheumy the next time I see her. Sjogren's has been a challenge for me as I get older. I really dislike the added discomforts it puts me through.

I agree, Sjogrens is so difficult to control… I only cope if I stick with a, too strict, diet.

Sadly, it's true. But when I do I get too skinny. I'm allergic to any bird meat so that takes that protein out of my diet. And since I'm allergic to bird I'm allergic to eggs too. Gluten is out of my diet as well. I crave a meaty sandwich with soft-regular-sized-bread slices. I'd give you my list but it's about time for me to log off. Let's just say an epi-pen is with me wherever I go.

I used to get these often. I have Sjögren’s and systemic sclerosis. They were extra bad when I was on MTX years ago and I see there’s another post here about this. My Sjögren’s is well controlled now with Mycophenolate/ CellCept and I rarely get these or nose bleeds now so I’m guessing they are indeed Sjögren’s related in your case. Naseptin works excellently when I do have them.

Thank you OldTed60. I'll ask my doctor about Naseptin nasal cream. In fact, I may call. Surely she won't need to see me to prescribe it. I've never had full on nose bleeds but will occasionally find blood on my Kleenex from both sides. Is this what you experienced in the past too, or is it just a little?

No mine are full on nose bleeds - often posterior ie top of my nostrils. I only use naseptin for ulcers/ sores though. A humidifier helps the dryness a little but once the bleeds start they are very heavy.

Thank you. I DO need to get a humidifier. I usually boil water with apple slices and a bit of cinnamon for a little moisture in the air. But I do need one for my bedroom too.

hi I get some horrendous sores inside my nose which don’t heal and become very crusty and bleed. Usually in the autum winter time. I have RA and on biologics and methotrexate. I used some fusidic acid cream which has hydrocortisone with it and it’s amazing how quickly it clears them . Within 24 hours it’s quite noticeable that they are already healing and totally gone by 5 days. This year I’ve been lucky none up to now but I’ve upped my vit D and multivitamins and minerals don’t know if that’s helped.

Thank you Susiebee31 for your response. When I get a flare it last for weeks. I know I've been tolerable with this issue for too long. I forget to mention it to my Rheumy when I'm not experiencing the issue. But I'll be darn two or three days after seeing her I'll notice it cropping up. She did put me on a strong dose of Vitamin D I take once a week. I also take a multivitamin and probiotic and stopped taking vitamin c as I felt it could be exacerbating the sore in my nose.

Thank you Postcards for your response. I have a nightly routine before jumping in bed. Chapstick, Vicks Vapor Inhaler nasal stick, and a Oracoat XyliMelt. The XyliMelt has been a saving grace for me with my dry mouth issues. Have you tried these? amazon.com/gp/product/B0921...

Oh God, I get these too, inside the tip. Not as frequently as you, by the sounds of it but they are very annoying. I have a cream called Naseptin from my GP and it does seem to get rid of them.
