I am struggling lately, its a bad flare thats effecting everywhere, could the cold weather be making me worse?
Anyone more sore with this cold weather?: I am... - NRAS
Anyone more sore with this cold weather?
I’m the opposite to you . Such relief in this weather as I’m permanently over heating due to inflammation. Just shows we are all different
Hi VeronicaF - I'm sorry to hear you're struggling! I'm actually the same as J1707 - I feel the cold is really helping my foot! I hope you'll feel better soon 🙏🏻
I definitely feel worse in this weather, hands and knees more swollen , generally feeling more achy. I love the warmer weather, can’t wait for spring!!
cold nearly kills me off, I get so stiff I’m rigid and the rib pain becomes unbearable, in hot dry countries I’m ok, we go to Thailand soon so I’ll be able to report on hot wet countries too
I find extremes of either make me flare so yesterday was horrendous today a tad calmer 🤪
I'M THE SAME AS YOU. THE COLD THROWS ME FOR A LOOP. HAVE BEEN IN A FLARE SINCE MONDAY AND IT'S NOW TURNING FRIDAY.THE ONLY THING HELPING ME IS ADVIL, THE MEDS AREN'T TOUCHING IT.I'M BEGINING TO THINK MY NEW MEDS (LEFLUOMIDE ) ARE NOT FOR ME. WAS ON METHOTREXATE FOR ABOUT 10 YRS. AND DR. THOUGHT I NEEDED TO CHANGE. I WAS GETTING RED BLOTCHES ALL OVER-ANY TIME I BUMPED ANYWHERE I WOULD GET THEM PLUS SKIN IS SO THIN I BLEED EASILY. IT'S NOT EASY GETTING OLD--JUST TURNED 78 YESTURDAY------THE MIND SAY YES YOU CAN DO THIS BUT THE BODY SAY NO-----LOL. AND THIS FLARE IS JUMPING ALL OVER MY BODY AND THERE'S NO BREAK IN SITE WITH THIS VERY COLD WEATHER. CAN'T WAIT FOR SPRING. SORRY FOR THE CAPS-JUST EASIER FOR ME. YOU ALL HANG IN THERE AND HOPING EVERYONE FEELS BETTER SOON.
Only when I’ve been out walking with the dog for long enough for the cold to get to my hips, they get stiff somehow.
Otherwise the weather doesn’t seem to affect RA.
Being in the warm sunshine makes me feel better, but I wonder if that’s the chemical changed caused by good mood…
So much to learn, but I feel everything is connected,
I bet it is the weather Veronica! I was in agony last week , my hands were so sore the bedsheets hurt on them . I find the cold brutal , especially if I’m out with the dog and an icy breeze catches my knuckles ( sometimes hands do swollen I can’t get gloves on ) I’m lucky to be away on Spain at the moment and the warmth is such a relief. I go to sunbed sessions at home when it’s at its worst … definitely helps me.
I suffer from the cold when I have to go out in it even though I wear thermals and so many layers I feel like the michelin man!!!!!!! However indoors with the help of my snuggly blanket and an efficient central heating system I'm OK
The cold weather really gets my various aches and pains going big time. A friend has RA and has had to sit in front of the fire with her hand and wrist splints on as she feels so bad. Roll on the summer and fingers crossed for a really good one.
Im the same. Been great since on benepali, expect the recent tummy probs which I now now is the CalcichewD3. But my shoulders, hands and knees ache again this week! I thought it was my Osteoarthritis but who knows 😔 roll on spring 🌱🌼 x
Definitely affected by the extreme cold, aching a lot more but it is not as bad this morning so body knows mild weather is on way.
Interestingly, the way I tried to describe how my hands were feeling when I was trying to get a diagnosis was that they felt the way they did as a kid when I had been out snowballing for hours (I grew up in Canada) and my hand knitted mittens were frozen with little ice balls. It would make my hands feel swollen and hot, and they would be red and raw. That was how I described how the arthritis was affecting my hands now!
I am in the middle of a flare, but I have always suffered from feeling cold, always wear layers of clothes. And I am on no medication right now too, so hard to tell if the flare is the cold dry air, or just the disease.
It is funny through, people often say damp weather makes their joints worse. Research was done and they found no link. So maybe it is just extremes in weather that makes us notice our joints and how they are feeling, not one thing causing the other.
so strange to see your post today as just been googling if cold weather affects ra as my hands are so painful last week.was feeling very down as new meds JAK have been so good over last year and thought they had stopped working! As it is only my hands that hurt I know I am very lucky, and as I don’t tend to wear gloves,it is probably the osteo in my hands that is bad and not ra as pain would be all over.Going to stay in until it gets warmer on Monday and clear out cupboards to keep busy but warm. Will light a nice fire this afternoon and read an audiobook to get through today!Hope you feel better when warmer on Monday Keep safe x
The cold weather does me in my muscles hate it and I ache all over. Not found flares come about due to weather, try getting in touch with your RA team for help with it.
I like my massages, usually full body, yesterday I tried clam shell body massage it was bliss. The heat from the shells is constant and consistent pressure is kept with them. It felt like my muscles has a work out and my circulation improved so much I was hot in bed last, lol
I feel for you. Cold, wet and damp all make me dip in fatigue, individually or on their own and raise my pain considerably. In the warm I'm almost like a different person. Take care and ne kind to yourself. 🌻
I’m hating this cold weather - it makes my muscles tighten up especially round my hips and buttocks. I’ve taken to buying Deep Heat patches and slapping one on when I go out if I’m feeling really chilly, then sitting with a hot water bottle and a blanket when I’m in the house. No fun.
A few years ago there was a lot of discussion about whether cold weather affected our arthritis symptoms (and signs). I seem to remember that there was a result from a survey on an app (which I completed) which suggested that it did in a slight majority people but not in others. I don't seem to have kept the survey or the results though.
If it affects you, it makes sense to protect yourself with layering, keeping active and keeping warm. Obviously if you have a tendency to Raynaud's Disease, this is likely to affect you more.
Personally, my hands and feet are red, sweaty and hot, and more so during flares, but I still find that the hand and wrist joints are much more painful if they get cold for any prolonged period.
