I had a rare trip out to the seaside after my rheumatologist nurse appointment yesterday. Hubby and I normally make a โdate dayโ of it. I decided I wanted to walk on the beach to the pier, which wasnโt far. It has been years since I went on a beach. When we got to the slope that took you back up to the promenade, the sand was much lower and about an 18โ high gap. I thought oh that will be fine. Nope!! I seem to have lost all strength in my legs and I tried pulling myself up with hubby pulling my other hand. I then fell onto to slope and banged my knee really hard. I then had to use the handrail to drag myself up. Luckily there werenโt many people around.
I felt so embarrassed and in pain ๐๐. Has anyone else lost power in their legs like this? Boy am I feeling it today ๐ฎ๐ฎ. Bruised, swollen knee and aches all over.
On a positive note, we had lovely fish and chips on the pier ๐๐.

Ouch, poor you. It does feel embarrassing to fall doesn't it! I don't know why...it's not like when someone else falls we feel anything other than concern. I hope that you enjoyed your day out nonetheless. Fish and chips make everything feel a little better.
My legs went thro periods of weakness and also balance and a lot of people have gone thro this to on her. I am Weeble Wobble to my hubby as I am all over the place again and balance atrocious so I just take it as it comes.
BUT dont let it stop you doing it again and have those fish n chip suppers!
That's interesting to know as I thought it was to do with my cervical spine, which is causing issues for me. Know what you mean about being a weeble!!! My family just roll their eyes and say "she's fallen again" ๐๐๐
Oh dear! Embarrassing falls are just routine for me now! Discovered that wide trousers and lethal when going upstairs (foot got caught and tripped me) in rush hour Liverpool St station! xx
Oh no!! I know how busy Liverpool Street station can be as many years ago I used to work nearby. Agree wide leg trousers can catch in heels very easily! ๐ฎ๐ฎ
hope you are recovering. Yes Iโve had a few embarrassing falls . One was out with my sister and teenage children when suddenly fir no reason my legs just went like you went down with a bang . People canโt just assist you up you have to find your own way. I had to crawl to a wall to get up . Second most embarrassing one was as the cinema my legs gave way at the end as we were leaving if it wasnโt for the unknown people around me who grabbed me I would have fallen down the steps taking all before me . So humiliating
Yes! My hubby was trying to pull me up but I had to use the rail to drag myself up with ๐๐๐. That must have been quite scary at the cinema as itโs pretty dark too!!
Ouch! Banged knees are painful! I hope your bruises get better quickly. But please donโt feel embarrassed - itโs not your fault there was too much gravity! Best wishes.
Iโve just been on holiday in Devon, definitely pushed myself too far, as I wanted hubby to enjoy his break. I was already in a flare of my AS, with lots of low back pain and intense leg pain. Since last Wednesday I get intense pain in my left thigh, then the muscle seems to turn to jelly and my leg buckles. Got home thankfully, but leg buckled in the shower on Sunday, and I crashed to the floor. Thank god hubby was home, I managed to gash my leg open, and struggled to stand up again. Spent 3hrs in A&E, as wound is quite bad, now needing twice weekly visits to the nurse. Having to use my walking stick around the house to prevent further falls, till this flare subsides. Frustrating.
I know what you mean, sometimes you feel like your legs and other parts just don't belong to you! I always say to doctors, I need a new body. Wish you could just go and get a new 'self' off the peg preferably in a size 12 and safely self tanned! We always end up laughing and it breaks the ice. Then I'd probably think we'll it's not me really and I miss the old self, with all its lumps bumps and battle scars. It would be great if you could put it away and just put it on when needed!๐คฃ
I did the same on a day TRIP to Cromer went for a wander then went for a Burton. Felt sorry for myself and cried sitting on the wall like a little baby!
Not sure what hurt most my pride or my ankle. Take care ๐บ my husband now calls me raspberry ripple rhymes withโฆโฆ. Not very flattering but makes me laugh!
Oh hope you recover quickly from your fall. Iโve done it many times. I donโt even attempt to try and walk on the beach now and forget going for a dip in the sea. If I manage to get in I most definitely canโt get out and usually end up on my bum covered in sand. The worst fall embarrassment wise was on my way to work both my legs just went from under me flat on my face. I sprained both of my shoulders coz I was wearing a back pack, sat there crying with holes in my tights bloody hands and knees and was finally hauled off the floor by an old lady with a walking stick the students who were there just laughed and left me in a heap.
Yeah but to be honest I find it quite funny now. I must have looked a right state. Wasnโt funny at the time and oooh my shoulders were really bad and painful for almost a week. That was before RA good job my skirt wasnโt too short or Iโd have flashed everyone. Always embarrassing falling over but itโs the shock more than anything. Sometimes if Iโm unhurt I just sit there laughing.
what a shame. We look forward to outings. โฆ.a different 4 walls. Mayb there r some gentle exercises you can do to strengthen your legsโฆ.when u have recovered.
