Has anyone had problems with their eyes? The last couple of weeks I've been getting really bad blurred vision and it's rather painful. I don't know if I'm getting paranoid or what. Fed up with this whole inflammation malarkey now just goes from one place to the next I always seem to be moaning 🙄

Sore eyes
have you seen an optician? If not then I’d go and get checked out.
Hi Brian. Have you had your eyes checked at your optician recently? I would make an appointment and explain you have RA as there are a few things that can cause painful eyes with blurred vision related to having RA.
I hate pestering people incase it's nothing but seems to be getting worse so I'll ring up today
You are never pestering people at all Brian. I always say to my patients who say this to me that they are keeping me in a job and out of mischief. Please do get an appointment with your optician and mention you have RA and that your vision is blurred and you have painful eyes won’t you. I know what you mean about not wanting to pester people as I am just as bad. Recently I had very painful eyes and my own eye hospital where I work were telling me off nicely for not asking them to take a look. I am now a patient under them.
Hay fever causes sore eyes. Also a condition called dry eye .
It's crazy I've never suffered from anything ever until I got diagnosed with pancolitis 2 years ago and now the inflammation has spread everywhere even in my sacroiliac joints now bloody crazy
I was the same, I'm 53 and never had hay fever until 3 year's ago!! Try an over the counter antihistamine, works for me no more sore eyes. 👍🏼
This time of year it could be connected to Hayfever….I ended up back in my Covid mask yesterday with sore eyes,& coughing & spluttering in my garden when the lawn was being cut… but do mention it to your Rheumy nurse if you have one…,any vision problems especially if they are painful should be treated seriously so try having a word with your optician too.
I think with your eyes you can’t be too careful, I would make an appointment with the optician. They can diagnose problems and prescribe something if necessary. I would it as soon as you can.
Hi Brian, I have secondary Sjögren’s syndrome (secondary to my RA), with very dry eyes being a feature. My RA medication helps to some extent but I am constantly putting drops, gel and so on to help. Definitely worth checking with an optician. Emma
I've managed to get an emergency appointment for tomorrow thankyou guys
You’re not by any chance taking hydroxychloroquine are you? In which case if you are have your eyes seen asap. Hydroxy can cause irreversible damage to your eyes if you carry on taking it like that.
Can vouch for that 🥴😎
I'm on Hydroxychloriquine and provided you are on the correct dose unlike years ago your eyes should be fine. I have mine checked every 6 months and also use eye drops occasionally for dry eyes. It's toxic to retina if dose too high but doesn't cause macular degeneration as far as I'm aware . Not had a problem with Hydroxychloriquine.
Hi Brian I would go and see an optician I was diagnosed with dry eyes (blurred vision) brought on by RA
Hi Yes I get blurred vision often but attend opticians regularly as she prescribed me eye drops for this. Basic eye drops to moisten your eyes. Dry eyes is a side effect of the medication and inflammation. I would visit the optician. Mine is much better now . Good luck.
See an optician or doctor. I have immune issues affecting my eyes. Am under the hospital and using loads of different drops, including steroids! It might just be hayfever, but get checked by a professional
thought blurred vision was a symptom of steroids anyway. I certainly have that ! Not sore.. but def blurry. Maybe I’m in the wrong section.. had eyes tested . Said blethaitis or something like that!!! !!! Thought I was on pmr section. Sorry!
There is something called Multiple autoimmune syndrome where people often have three different autoimmune conditions, often Hashimoto's, Sjögren’s and RA. In fact there has been research that shows that Hashimoto's should be treated like an autoimmune condition just as RA and the others are.
I had Hashie's first, then the PsA was diagnosed, but my rheumatologist refuses to take the dry eyes and mouth seriously so nothing goes in my records to say I may have Sjögren's as well. This is a big problem when it comes to research as clinicians won't realise that if someone has one autoimmune condition they should be checking for others too. And patients need to speak up and not blame themselves or the weather.
I had this issue mine was linked to RA inflammation!pressure at the back of my eye. Saw my friendly ophthalmologist who sent me directly to hospital where they did tests and gave me eye drops which I take daily.
All sorted !
Don’t wait about with eyes they are precious and go wrong quickly so get help 😍
I have that Brian and have to use drops, ra affects the muscles of the eye as it does all our muscles. Drops do offer some relief and it seems to be all my gp can offer.
Hi guys I've just been to the opticians the front of my eyes are really dry. They said it could be the amgevita causing the dryness. I've got drops to see if it helps and another appointment in 2 weeks thanks for all the lovely replies
I have RA, Uveitis & Galaucoma. Uveitis can sometimes come with RA as a package deal. It’s inflammation of the eyes. (Iritis). If you live in London. You should try & get on Moorfields eye hospital books. The staff are fantastic. I’ve been going there 30yrs. I’ve had loads of steroid injections in my eyes & loads of other procedures. It’s very important that you get your eyes looked at. Good luck.
I had my cataracts done at Spa medica in Bolton, about 2 years ago now, in the last few months my left eye is very blurry, I'm going back to spa medica on the 30th for a review I just hope the sort it ASAP as it seems to be getting worse my left eye Hope you can get sorted soon brian
Take care
