Hi everyone, just one question. What do you take for dry itchy eye? I seem to be getting this now and then and it also stings. Do you ask for something from your doctor or go for over the counter relief ?
Dry eyes : Hi everyone, just one question. What do you... - NRAS
Dry eyes
Morning. You can get drops from your GP. Do mention it to your Rheumatologist. Although it can be part of RA. Dry eyes, dry mouth and nose it could also be Sjögren’s syndrome as this can go hand in hand with RD.
I have Celluvisc drops from the dr.xxx
I'm presently using single dose viscotears which I find very good. Your GP should be able to offer you something, but it might be worthwhile reminding them to prescribe a preservative free option as the preservative can irritate eyes with long term use.
I have carmellose eye drops prescribed by GP which was suggested by eye specialist
I have Hylo-Forte they’ve really helped my eyes which are dry itchy also constantly swollen. It’s part of RA .
Your optician will help with this, they give eye gel for nighttime.
Good to get your eyes checked
Hi Frankie,I take drops during the day and gel at bedtime ,really helps with my dry eyes xxx
I use preservative free (single use) Celluvisc (Carmellose 1%) first thing in the morning as I get in the shower and as I go to bed as thet blurr my vision. I then use preservative free Liquifilm (Polyvinyl alchohol eyedrops 1.4%, again single use) as and when throughout the day. No limit on the number of times you can use them. Both on prescription.
You can buy Liquifilm over the counter in a bottle but it's got preservatives, Hypromellose is also available over the counter. They all do slightly different things but, in essence, the same, if that makes sense? lubricate dry eyes and help with lack of tears.
Hot cloth to help stimulate tear ducts works well too when they feel dry. Really soothing.
I have Moorfields Hosp Hydromoor eye drops from doctor. Eyes dry night and morning. Side effect of RA I believe
I have dry eye too, also wet AMD (and have eye injections) and RA. I have used a few over the last year but lately have been using Hylo Tear. I didn't find this particularly good so have now bought some Hylo Forte which I understand is very good. Whatever you buy, get preservative free.
Apparently hyaluronic acid taken internally is also good for dry issues.
I used to take this all the time following eye laser surgery. It was little sachets, syno vital it's called. Was brilliant for dry eyes but as always, everyone check with Rheumy first before taking anything.
good for wrinkles too, apparently!
Hi Shalf - what medications were you on at the time? You're right, I have done some research and there isn't any information about if HA is not compatible with hydroxyxhloroquine.
Hylo-forte, VitA-pos and Zailin night gel all on prescription from eye department specialist. I also take flaxseed oils which helps.
Ali
thanks everyone for your input.
After complaining to my rheumy about my eyes, my rheumy sent me to the eye specialist and I have been prescribed Eye Glo. It does help when I feel that my eyes are dried.
