Apart from RD I have osteoarthritis, mainly in my knees, and have had physio ultra sound for ongoing painful swollen knee problems and found the treatments very helpful. But getting increasingly expensive! Im wondering if any one has used an ultrasound home device, how effective are they and which ones have you used? Many thanks

I would think an issue could be to know how long to do it for and if you can over expose the problematic tissue to the waves from the device and make it over worked and sore? I’ve no experience of one though.

Thanks for raising this. From the research Ive done home devices have a much lower output than the ones used professionally as you would expect. There also seems to be different levels of intensity control as well as guidance about the length of time for it to be used for different treatments. When I have my physio sessions I have ultra sound for 10mins followed by electro pulsing so a home device would seem to give treatments well within what I currently have. Many thanks.A good point raised.

I also have RA and OA worst in my knees. I had significant muscle atrophy that physio didn't address but after several valuable sessions with a private biokineticist I purchased on his recommendation a Compex SP4 muscle stimulation machine. It has programmes for rehabilitation but also pain management and recovery and has been a worthwhile investment for me.

Hi, sorry I am unable to give you any advice as I live in Canada. Your doctor should be able to give you a referral for assessment. Hope things improve for you,

Sue
