Good morning. Can anyone tell me if when you have a scan on hands, does the Doctor generally tell you what he can see at the time ?
Thanks in advance. I know it will depend on the Dr as all do things differently.

Every time I've had ultra sound the doc has made sure I could see the screen and explained what was going on. Quite fun really, as inflammation shows up as pulsing red, and you can see all sorts of things.
Hi, no I've never been told at the time, I've always had to wait until my next appointment with the rheumy.
I think it depends who's doing it. If he doesn't say then ask, the same goes for if you want to see the screen if it's turned away from you, ask if you can see it too. You've the right it's just if you don't ask you don't get. If I'm not told or the screen's not in my view I ask & never been refused.
Thank you. Yes you are right I will do that. Thank you.
On a different note it was the dog show yesterday. We raised 602 pounds for the Children's Hospital. Perfect weather and lots of lovely dogs. Exhausted today but worth it.
Do you know I was only thinking about that last night (early this morning truth be told!) & was going to answer your pm till I realised the time. That's a huge sum, nearly double last year's amount raised, well done! I hope everyone (& doggies) had a great time. x
Yes it was and thank you.Everyone seemed to enjoy themself and we had great weather. A rescue dog from Romania won the best in show. Will have to try and send a photo. The egg and spoon was hilarious.
Thank you take care.
Well had the scan took the whole of 2mins. Did ask to see the screen and what he could see. Not that helpful saw flashes of reds blue and a little yellow. Then grey. He just said looking to see what type of arthritis. Confused now said no inflammation but my fingers are stiff and swollen. Asked if on medication then said results to Consultant. Well at least I was out five mins before appointment time
when I had my ultra sound on my hands, it just looked like a grey picture I could not make head nor tails of it. The Dr told me that I had a considerable amount of inflammation around my knuckles and tendons. Funnily enough, this was supposed to be my final test to prove nothing was wrong with me and to discharge me back to my local GP. However, my Rhumy had to reconsider her first diagnosis and is now giving me drugs to slow down the disease. But, they are still unsure as to what is driving the inflammation. She gave me a diagnosis of Inflammatory Arthritis in the end. My Ultra-sound is what finally convinced my Rhumy that something was wrong.
I don't know what way I am going now. Passed second assessment for anti tnf. Loads of steroids and the Nurses have said I had synovitis in my fingers. This Dr just rushed and when I asked questions just kept saying could be wear and tear.
Yes with ultrasound they talk you through it and show you the different aspects.
I didn't get any of that. I was in and out in under 5 minutes.
So frustrating moomie! I hope you get a bit more info when you get the report...
I have an ultrasound booked for Monday; I've never had one before, so thanks for asking this question and helping me know more about what to expect.
Good luck for Monday hope you get on ok. Found it a little painful when he was pressing over my joints but otherwise ok. Like I said I was in and out under 5mins.Do let me know how you go on.
My swelling is not as bad at the moment as it has been. Hands been shinny with the swelling. Timed how long the stiffness took to wear off yesterday am and it was 3 1/2 hours.
Good luck
Thanks. I don't have much visible swelling at the mo - and apparently it's not the 'right kind' of swelling anyway... I am pretty sure the rheumy thinks the scan will 'prove' the pain in my hands is OA not RA; I see it as providing some clear evidence one way or the other. If it's not RA, I need some other, clearer explanation for the rapid changes, loss of function, pain and stiffness, because what's happening to my hands (and feet) isn't 'normal' for someone under 50, or for OA... I am very uncertain about what to expect with the ultrasound, but your post and other people's responses have helped. I'll let you know.
