How long does a depo-medrone injection last

I had a steroid injection just over 8 weeks ago and feeling fantastic still! I usually only have relief for about 4 weeks, if anything, so does that mean my biologic might actually be working? I’ve been on Benepali since last December (alongside Sulfasalazine) and not seen any real improvement.

Well……..I have had many, many depot injections over the course of 33 years and sometimes I get relief from them for over three months plus and others for what seems like less than a week so not sure anyone can tell you how long you may benefit from yours. It’s definitely a lottery depending on the state of your body at the time and the disease and all those variables. So glad you’ve had benefit from your current jab and hope it continues for a good long time yet and maybe your biologic is starting to work as it should. Fingers crossed!

Thank you, I’m keeping my fingers crossed it’s the benepali x

When I’ve had one it usually lasts 4-5 weeks.Perhaps the Benepali will be your magic medicine!

Here’s hoping 🤞

Some last months and some a few days it seems to be a bit of a lottery. I think maybe sometimes the steroid brings inflammation down to a level which the other medication is then able to hold it at (even if it couldn’t bring it down) - but that is only my theory.

Thanks, I’m hoping your theory is correct 🤞

I've found over the years that some work longer than others. Had one recently when I came off Beni for 5 weeks. I've been on Beni for around 5 months and it works really well but boy does it sting. Been on Sulphzasine 16 years

Thank you 😊 I’ve been on sulfasalazine for over 3 years, it’s the only dmard I could tolerate. I take benepali out the fridge at least six hours before injecting (sometimes the night before in cooler months) and no stinging! I only inject in my thighs as I can’t do it in my tummy.

That's a good tip.I usually take it out a couple of hours before. Tried the ice cube trick last week . Perhaps my skin is sensitive 😀

That is great! Hopefully you will get further relief. As others say, it varies...I've only had one depo-medrone injection and the relief was amazing. It calmed everything down for many months, 6 mnths at least. (back, knee, shoulder pain). My hand and wrist pain remained which is still a bother but I was delighted with the way it helped my back etc. I'm also on Adalimumab (Imraldi) Hope its effects continue for you. x

Wow, I’d be very happy if mine lasted 6 months! Thank you and I hope you are doing well with imraldi x

Thanks very much. Imraldi has dramatically improved my quality of life. Been on it since summer 2019. All the best 💐

I have to say I absolutely love the Depo injections, much nicer than taking Pred orally as you don’t have to think about tapering. I had one in May I think, and I’m still feeling ok 🤞🤞🤞but my Consultant also added in Sulphasalazine alongside my Methotrexate, so maybe that is helping 🤷‍♀️

I love them too when they work! Pred does nothing for me weirdly but I’m glad in a way. Glad your depo injection is giving you relief, long May it continue 🤞

The most I’ve ever had in the way of relief is six weeks with a depo and some that haven’t worked at all. I hope in your case that as the relief has been longer than that, that it maybe your meds that’s doing the work for you. I do hope so but any relief is better than none in my book long may it continue.

hello Dibbers, well I am not familiar with the names of the med,s you are taking, ie benapli, etc, but I have been referred to a pain clinic by my rheumy, and wondering, are you referring to injections like corisone, for pain from osteoarthritis, and or PMR, I have been on pred now for about 6yrs, now on 5 mg for at least last 2 yrs, and want to get off, as now, don,t even know if pain is from PMR, or osteoarthritis or both, MRI shows osteoarthritis, in back and most joints, back problems include, slipped disk, spinal stenosis and degenerative disks, along with arthritis, so hoping for something to help, and pain clinic consultation will talk about cortisone shots I believe, I am in Canada, so some of the names of med,s you refer , maybe go by different name here
