Bath Lifts

Hi I haven't been on this site for some time now.

I have RA and whilst I am living as best I can with it I find I cannot take a bath! I don't have a shower either. I was provided with a bath lift which in theory was great but I could not cope with lifting it in and out of bath to clean bath. It was so heavy. I am considering the inflatable Manga bath lift which seems a lot lighter and practical. Can any of you lovely people give me some advice or if anyone has used this cushioned inflatable lift? Always mixed reviews so I thought this site was worth a try to get honest views. Thank you!

If you can actually step into a bath…having a shower attachment ..& something to hang on to fitted, would probably not be much more expensive & a lot less cumbersome than buying the lift you describe.Also …..Years ago I had a bath removed & a double shower just slotted into the space it left…that was very successful.

I like to soak in Epsom salts and have got an Easy2bathe lift. The sling .lowers you right into the water, .lovely, but expensive

I can’t help you with the lift because we don’t have a bath. 15 years ago, when I found getting into and out of the bath increasingly difficult, we had our bath removed and a double shower put in. Sometimes I do yearn for a long soak, but it doesn’t last long.

I have a Mangar cushion and it has given me back the use of my bath. The only comment I would make is that if you struggle to lift something heavy then the battery has to be lifted to recharge it and it is quite heavy. I find it has to be recharged after 3 baths. As it needs electricity to charge it this obviously cannot be done in situ. I move mine to a power point just outside my bathroom. The cushion itself is not heavy and is easily moved for cleaning. I am currently having a walk-in bath installed in my en-suite but otherwise I would have happily carried on with the cushion.

The Mangar cushion is really good. I have had mine for a long time now. The battery is a bit heavy as thelmar explained above but apart from that is is very good.

Hi I haven't been able to get out of a bath in ages - years - We have a shower fitted over the bath with a curtain rail- and I step over and into the bath to wash. I do think a shower would be the answer for you.

I can’t help you with lifts, but I have looked at ‘walk in’ baths before now. I love baths but rarely have them as I can’t always get out again 🤪. Maybe have a look at those.

At my last flat I got a Disabled Facilities Grant from the council to put in an electric shower for me (over bath) as I only had a bath and couldn’t wash myself (long waiting time though).

I spent a lot of research getting the right bath for my needs. I contacted a disabled bath company, they put in a very slightly wider walk in bath , plus a bath lift. Mine is called The Relaxa Bath lift. That is the exact name of the bath lift. It is important to choose a non slip bath and one that is just a little bit wider really helps for comfort. I love my baths now. Expensive but worth all the money. I spend very little going out .

Thank you! I will check it out. But my bath is quite small and I am hoping to move so a portable would be best
