I am on holiday in Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands and have tested positive for covid on Saturday, currently symptoms are fairly mild.. In Guernsey where I live or UK I would be eligible for anti viral treatment . I am struggling to access it here. Has anyone been able to do so while in Spain and if so any advice?
Thanks!

I don’t want to throw cold water on your hopes…but I think it is most unlikely you will be able to access the anti viral treatment as a visitor to a Spanish Island.I think your best route would be to speak to whichever facility your Travel Medical Insurance company have referred you to.Write down a list of the drugs you are on, together with which vaccinations you have had…& take the medical advice you are then given.
Sorry not to be more optimistic…but if you are not feeling too bad & are fully vaccinated…don’t waste your energy worrying about it…just listen to the Spanish medics & try to at least enjoy the sunshine.
Thanks for the advice, I am fully vaxed but symptoms are getting worse (day 3) so was becoming concerned. Will get in touch with my insurance company as you suggest. All the best!
Whenever you fall sick like this abroad always put your travel insurance people in the picture. They will know of a clinic or a doctor close to you because presumably you are confined to your hotel at the moment?
With Covid having been around for quite awhile now - I’m sure they will have a system in place that will help you.
Sorry to hear that you’re feeling a bit worse today but make that call and hopefully someone will be able to give you something to help you feel a bit better.
I looked into it briefly when my father in law who lives in Spain passed away. Spain are way behind the U.K. re antivirals, only becoming available at the end of March. I couldn’t see it was possible, so decided to miss the funeral. My Father in law had covid in April, and despite being 89 and a cancer patient, couldn’t access them. They are apparently reserved for patients already in hospital.I would do as agedcrone suggests, and try not to stress too much about it, and enjoy what time you have left there. Hopefully your symptoms will remain mild 🤗
Thanks for sharing your experience and sorry for your loss. Very helpful information . I have spoken to my GP this morning and although he would have referred for treatment as is the process in Guernsey, he is not too worried if I don't get it here. So likely will do as suggested and hopefully recover for a few days at the end before coming home. 🤞
