Hi. What recent advice has any one had in England re: length of the isolation period for some one who is immunosupressed and has Covid. I didn't ask any one but suppose it's doing LF's from day 6 and going back to normal life after 2 negative ones (as long as nothing has flared up due to stopping the immunosipressants). Just wondered if anyone had had different advice. Thanks
Covid isolation period: Hi. What recent advice has any... - NRAS
Covid isolation period
I'm not aware of there being any different advice for those of us who are immunosuppressed - just the standard government guidance for everyone.
I'm immunosuppressed and currently have covid. Day 0 was Sunday for me so my understanding is that Friday and Saturday will be Days 5&6 when I hope my LFTs will be negative 🤞
There’s no different guidance for us but it took me a lot longer than 5 days to get a negative test.
Same as anyone else, isolate then test day 5 and 6, two consecutive negatives and you’re good to go….. this is no longer a ‘legal” requirement. My negatives didn’t happen until days 9 and 10. Rheumatology team advised me to stop all my rheumatoid meds for two weeks or ‘until I was recovered from covid’
I’m just getting over covid too. RA and immunosuppressant meds. Started testing day 5 but took til day 7 and 8 for negatives. Ten days off work for me though as I’m a nurse and that’s the guidance for working with vulnerable patients. Husband was positive first (no idea where he got it from!) and he took until days 9 and 10 for negative results but then he was sicker with more symptoms than I had too.
Ah! That's what I had in mind. Returning to work. I suppose it depends on your employer. I'm a teacher, so that s why I was wondering. I'll just check out the college's policy. Thank you.
I’m an Early Years Practitioner teaching in an infant school. Before half term my school insisted on 10 full days for staff, but since the government announcement during our half term my school changed to ‘two negative tests from day 5 onwards’ or after 10 days isolation. I returned after my negative on the morning of day 10, I felt much better then, but have still found being back exhausting, so take care!
Ah! Thank you for this. I'll definitely need to check this out with HR then. Actually feeling a bit worse today (+ve test Sun). Not sure if it's Covid, the anti-virals or my underlining condition (without meds). Who knows? You take care too. Cx
My understanding is similar to the above but if you still test positive at day 10 or more & you're feeling OK you don't have to isolate any longer
I was still testing positive on day ten. It was day15 before my first negative LFTresult I was rather unwell with it and it took a further two weeks before I felt normal- whatever that is! Did not get any antiviral drugs too late for doc to sort it out!
Get well soon🍀
Zoe advice was the same but also added that older people cleared the virus more slowly and it might be worth waiting 10 days before starting Lateral Flow tests to check you were no longer infectious. As we have similar problems with our immune response if immune suppressed that might also apply to us.
