Covid quantitive antibody test

Hi does anyone understand Covid 19 IgG (AU/Ml) readings? My test result says 75494.4AU/Ml positive. I understand the positive means I've either had covid or had the vaccinations (Ive had four vaccines) so I guess the positive result is from them and means I've built up antibodies but to what degree I don't understand. Relieved I have a positive response at least. I have AS and RA in my peripheral joints.

The positive/negative test is specific for infection with Covid. It distinguishes between the antibodies you get from being infected and those produced by vaccines. So it sounds like you've had Covid.

Hi Frances thanks for the info. I didn't know that and when they email the results they fail to explain them. I can't believe I could have had covid but would be pleased to think I had. im on Methotrexate and did stop before each vaccine to maximise effect, but my RA is active and has been since diagnosis over a year ago. its getting less so but don't these meds take their time! Take care.

That very much depends on which test you did. Many of the ones from pharmacies don’t distinguish between antibodies from infection or the vaccine. For example this one from Lloyds pharmacy states a positive result shows antibodies from either infection or the vaccine lloydspharmacy.com/products...

I agree completely, most available to purchase don’t distinguish between antibodies from infection or vaccine. I use biocard and their results aren’t numerical, which I prefer as they don’t know how many you need to protect you from serious disease. Biocard just states if you have no, weak or strong response consistent with being fully vaccinated or exposed to the virus. Thankfully despite being on 5 immunosuppressants and 2 steroid inhalers I’ve had a strong response, but accept that is only part of the answer, as you don’t know your B & T cell response.

Thanks everyone for the info. I used the London Laboratories test.

I use Biocard. If you look at the reference on the results email there will be a number after the/ between 0 - 10. This is your antibody level which corresponds to low, moderate, strong. Hope this is helpful.

It depends upon what antibody test you had. Some test for N antibodies and others S antibodies. N antibodies can only be created from an infection. S antibodies can come from an infection or the vaccine. The level is difficult to interpret, higher is better than lower. Noone yet knows what level is needed for protection or to prevent the infection.
