I've seen lots discussion on here about Covid and vaccination immunity response for those of us on immunosuppressants. I had a very scary brush with Covid today and thought I'd share my experience which you may find reassuring.
Last Thursday I needed to pick up a chest of drawers so asked a friend to help me. He drove and after over 2 hours in the car together he received a call from his boss to tell him that the colleague he had been driving with all week at work had just tested positive for Covid. You can imagine my immediate sense of panic. So we stopped at a pharmacy and he did a lateral flow test which came back negative.... Big sighs of relief all round!
Fast forward to yesterday and I get a message from the same friend saying he's been ill since the weekend and has taken a Pcr test. Then this morning I receive the bombshell message saying he's tested positive and has Covid. My blood turned to ice. Yes I'm double vaxxed since February but I've seen so much stuff about people on RA drugs not having a sufficient immune response to the vaccine that I've been feeling pretty worried lately . I'm also expecting to be called for a 3rd vaccine in September so I imagine any antibodies are getting low. So I'm thinking.... 2 hours in a car with an infected person there's no way I haven't caught it.
So I rushed off to get a PCR test. Spent an agonising day fretting. Just got the result back as negative. I am so relieved! To me this really demonstrates that even with the drugs I take.... Kevzara, MTX and Steriods.... the vaccine has protected me. Doing a happy dance around the kitchen! I feel so very lucky 🥳🥳🥳
