Travel sharp bins

I'm looking to buy a bin that will take up to 4 used Benipali pens. Small enough for the suitcase, safe and secure. Can you pack the bin with used pens in the hold suitcase or do you carry it back with your hand baggage?

I’ve never used a bin for travel, I just put the cap back on, put them back in the box and put them in the hold luggage. You can get travel bins though I don’t know how small they are.

Like Kitty I don’t use a sharps bin for travel either. I put the cap back on, and put them back in my little case I use to keep them cool, then put in suitcase for journey home. Then once home transfer to my usual sharps box. I could foresee problems getting rid of the small sharps box afterwards, as pharmacies and hospitals are charged for incinerating them, and I’m not sure hospital at home would agree to taking ones they hadn’t issued.

Do you put them in your hold suitcase or cabin?

On the outward journey I take themIn the cabin, on the return flight I put all used ones in the hood in my main suitcase. If I have any unused ones going back I keep them in the hood as they are good to use for 28 days after being removed from the fridge, but the temp in the hold can get very cold, so wouldn’t be suitable for unused ones

Good morning You can get a small travel bin from your biologic supplier, my uncle who is off travelling phoned them and within a couple of days received a travel bin and the letter that you take for customs. Also its fine to put in your hold luggage on your return journey but obviously on your flight out your medication has to go in your hand luggage. X

Like everyone else, hand luggage on way out, hold on way back.

And put them back in the box they came in. Don’t even put cap back on as the whole purpose of the pens is that you can’t damage yourself with the needle once used.

Have a good holiday

I have just been abroad for first time with my injections. I went to Boots and they had a selection of sharps bins. Just got a very small one as that was all I needed. Otherwise I would maybe use a small airtight pot.
