What should I do with used metoject? Take a plastic pot and bring home? Can I then put the used pot in household waste and pen into my sharps bin??

Hi, whenever I've been away I've just put the used pen back into the box and put it in the sharps bin when I get home (whether in UK or abroad). Have a lovely holiday!😁

I do exactly the same. Keep it in it’s box.

I do this too

Yes, I agree with that as long as it has a secure lid. Have a great time. x

Hi, you can get a travel version of the sharps box, holds about 5 to 6 injections. Your GP may have this size otherwise ask at your rheumatology appointment. Enjoy your break.

You can order a travel box from your doctors or collect one from your hospital and when you come home seal it and send it with your sharps box collection. You will also need a letter from the hospital to take mtx out of the country as its toxic. You might be able to get a letter from your doctor.

Hi as you are only away for a week, I used to do my inj at home a day later than usual and so do inj when back. That way didn't have to worry about it whilst away. My rheum nurse advised this, always do it as it takes pressure off where to put it once used! Enjoy your break.x

I have dogs so to extra safe I always keep any sharps in a tuperware. One of those with the lock down sides.

You can order a travel sized sharps box FOC from your healthcare at home type company (if this is where your Mtx is sent from to you) which is about the size of a rectangular plastic lunchbox and has a click down permanent sealable top on it just like the large bins we get but smaller size) or you could use a plastic type disposable freezer container with lid. The box I was sent was for me to travel abroad with the Mtx and would have had room for 3 of the Mtx shots in it. I liked the idea of of it being secure and no one able to open it up on the way back home. Anj has an excellent suggestion and I use these for my storage at home all the time as the lids can’t come loose by themselves. I have some from Tesco but they sell them all over. Enjoy your holiday!

God no! They need to be disposed of as cytotoxic waste - you can get a very small bin that only holds 2 injections to take on holiday.
