WHINGE & TURMERIC & HONEY ADVICE

Morning folks, recently diagnosed with osteoporosis. Had fun and games with meds due to a mix up at my local surgery. Had to keep chasing them for the prescription, took 2/3 weeks! Sold my beloved car as I'm unable to drive until after knee surgery, (still no date in sight) Felt the company took advantage as only one would come to me. The car had been scratched and several tiny dents. The company knew my area. Other cars have had slashed tyres, lights and windows smashed . They could have given me a better price. Now feel more isolated than before, groceries delivered. It has dragged me down mentally. Cat Bella picked up on mood and become withdrawn. Hope my new meds will improve things for both of us.

Trying to keep occuppied, learning to use a 'Scan & Cut' machine and looking at what I can make and post to a charity I support as I can't get out, cards/envelopes, mandalas, bookmarks. Doing some online study, currently Henry 8th & 6 wives. Just completed an Excel workshop at the local hub and next week an assessment for a maths course. Not allowed to take a CSE at school as my teacher said it was a waste of time now at 63 years of age want to give it a go. It will help mentally. Have suggested the college try a meditation class and basic yoga both of which I want to try.

Having read about turmeric and honey as supplements to help arthritis and seen ads for turmeric tablets what do you folks think, good, works for some not others, don't bother, go for it. All comments welcome.

Good health to you all.

We Buy Any Car and other companies like them should wear black masks because they commit daylight robbery. Your current situation sounds really miserable and I'm sorry for it. It's already a depressing time of year so it's not surprising you feel down. Did you know that there is a Facebook page called Virtual Village Hall? It is well worth a look for things to entertain, educate and keep us fit.

In West Yorkshire we can still get a bus pass for free travel off peak on the busses and reduced prices on trains within the area for over 60s (free!). You could have a few days out. In several local shopping centres here there are mobility aids like mobility scooters free for lending to customers. We were not offered CSEs in maths either but I took and passed GCSE at about 40. So proud of that.

From what I've heard and read it seems you'd have to eat a small mountain of turmeric for it to have any effect. Sorry

Hi, thanks for replying, have left a message with the RA clinic regarding alternative meds and having seen the cost of tablets in an ad it is making me think carefully. Have spoken to several people who were also ripped off sellling cars when they had no choice, one was due to bereavement. On a happy note my moggy spent some time on my knee yesterday evening and slept on my bed without 'unintentionally' hurting me which she has done in the past, got close and purred when I stroked her, it was nice🐈🐈

Sorry to hear about your car but good news about your cat - hopefully the first of many happy experiences 😻Your other projects sound great - please let us know how they develop 😉

Please discuss with your rheumatologist first. I purchased prescription strength turmeric that is available in Australia, in its pure form rather than the capsules here in the U.K. I was told although you couldn’t use it with warfarin it was fine with antiplatelets. Not long after starting it, I noticed the stiffness and pain was much less, however I was getting covered in bruises. When I researched it further I found it was contraindicated with antiplatlets, so had to stop. It interacts with so many meds, including diabetic meds, sulfasalazine, amlodipine. Also any drugs that use the enzyme P450 where drugs are broken down in the liver, it can result in delay clearing the drug leading to toxic levels or cause the drug to metabolise faster resulting in not reaching therapeutic levels. The P450 is involved in the metabolism of about 40% of medications, so there is a real possibility your on something that uses it. People have this false impression because these are purchased as supplements they are safe. I learned the hard way by trusting a rep for the company, and spent £70 on the pure turmeric powder, it did help for the short time I took it. Apparently it is the equivalent of taking ibuprofen.

Here is a good site listing many of the interactions:

Hi Maureen, had already left a message at my RA centre, honey and ginger I can add to drinks and food but turmeric, yes I need to think carefully.🐕🐕

There was a recent discussion on tumeric - if you put it in the search box top right they should come up. It seems to me that you would need an awful lot of tumeric for it to have an effect - and even a small amount gave me indigestion....
