Hello everyone, I am trying hard to get off pain meds.Have read a lot about research stating that Turmeric is actually more effective for painrelief than Nsaids. Is there anyone here who has successfully weaned off (or tried to) pain meds with turmeric golden paste? Thankful for thoughts😊
Turmeric golden paste: Hello everyone, I am trying hard... - NRAS
Turmeric golden paste
Hi Simba, in answer to your question then yes almost! I has using Naproxen and cocodomal on a daily basis since starting the golden paste around 6 weeks ago I've only had the tablets twice ( I was on nights, think the change in routine caused a bit of a flare)
I use greens organic turmeric gold as it already contains organic ginger and black pepper. I have a teaspoon of this with some cinnamon, a little coconut oil then add a little milk and warm up, put it in a cup with a little honey and get it down!! It took a little getting used to but now I quite like it. All the research I did points to the fat, back pepper and being warmed up is really important to how it works, there was a programme on it I think it was "Trust me I'm a Dr" have a Google I'm sure you will find it.
I just thought if I could try and cut some of the pills I take then I'd try this instead apparently it's also great for the liver and helps cleanse that, very important for me due to the other drugs I take.
Hope you get on with it and gives you a little relief.
Thank you for the reply woodstar😊It is encouraging to hear that it does make a difference! Ihave just ordered some powder to make my paste! I will let you know how it goes, sounds so good if it can help to protect my liver😊
Hi Simba
I had been using golden paste. My nutritional therapist sent me the link below just today - I haven't yet read it through carefully:
igennus.com/events/power-cu...
Hope it is helpful
Usha
Thank you for your reply Mistydawn, I also have a link that may interest you. There is a closed Fb group called "The turmeric user group" that gives you a lot of useful information of how to make your golden paste, how to start taking it and what things are important to keep in mind and so on and you can ask questions and hear from others about their experiences. Perhaps useful😊
Certain UK turmeric user and turmeric support groups on Facebook actually tell people who do not have any health issues NOT to take turmeric paste, claiming it is a strong nutritional supplement - too strong to take just for good health! Instead they suggest just using turmeric powder in cooking, if you are well and have no health issues! Can you believe it?
Hi I took a look at the link , all looks very interesting and am tempted to buy and try myself. Did you buy directly from them? Just making sure it's a genuine product and company? before I buy. How long before you noticed a change or improvement after starting to use them? Many thanks.
Sarah
Hi Sarah
I only got the link from my nutritional therapist yesterday so have not tried it yet. She suggests buying fro :
shop.igennus.com/Longvida-O....
Let me know how you get on
Mistydawn
I bought mine through amazon. Yes it is important to have good powder. The Fb group had a really good instruction on how to make the paste and how to start taking it in a right way. I understood that it is very individual how soon you see improvement and that you need to give time working up to the optimal dose, starting with just 1/4tsp x2/day and working up to max 2-3tsp/day. I really think it's worth a try😊 We can compare our experiences! Good luck. Simba
Thank you, I was hoping I could just buy a capsule and swallow it. As my hands don't work very well. My fingers lock at times. Any advise much appreciated. Xx
Hi Sarah, So sorry for your hands. The paste is however very easy to make and can also be frozen. I can give you the recipe if you want. Looking at the fb site would give you a lot of more info. The thing is that capsules are not so good for in order for the turmeric to have optimal effect you need to take it with a good fat, olive oil or coconut oil for example and also add black pepper. When you make the paste you put in these ingredients and so the turmric is ready to be taken.
I'd love the recipe pls. And will take a look at the fb site. What's it called?
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer all my questions. Xx
Hi Sarah, only glad to be of help😊 The group name is : The turmeric user group. Do have a look! They have the whole recepie well explained. I'll look it up and give the essentials to you.xx Take care, Simba
So here is the recepie:

1-2 cups of water ( 1/2 in the beginning, add during cooking)
1/3 cup of olive oil or coconut oil
3tsp of freshly ground black pepper
- Combine water and powder, bring to boil, reduce to simmer for 7-10 min
- Keep stirring add water to keep smooth
- Let cool till warm then stir to make smooth.
- Ok for two weeks in fridge. You can freeze if the batch too big.
- Start with 1/4tsp x2/ day with food.
- increase dose after 4-5 days, slowly to see what suits you. Max dose 2-3 tsp/ day.
Hope this of help😊xx Simba
Interesting post on Tumeric as pain/inflammation control and the < Tumeric User Group> and the recipe you posted - I have not read all the info yet but I have two queries:
- isn't ingesting a largish quantity of black pepper an irritant to the gut? If you're on an AIP diet, pepper is one thing you should cut out and check on reinntroduction if it causes a reaction. Why is the pepper necessary?
- what are your thoughts about using fresh Tumeric root for pain relief/inflammation control, taken daily say in a smoothie with some coconut oil, coconut milk. (I have tried to incorporate it my cooking also).
I have a major pain and inflammation issue with my RH wrist and cannot take NSAIDS, or Nuofren. I guess the pain relief impact of taking Tumeric/Curcumin takes a while.
Thanks
Diana
Hello Diana,
I have understood that turmeric is not easily absorbed and that black pepper makes a difference. I have already reintroduced it so no problem for me. I put the ready paste with the coconut fat and black pepper into a cup of warm coconut milk, sometimes add honey. Haven't noticed any irritation.
You would think it would be ok to use fresh turmeric, I have read that it is recommended, but I wonder if the efficacy is the same? I'll ask the fb group and get back to you ( they seem to know everything😊)
The time for effect seems to differ among users. I started my use about 10 days ago and have halved my pain meds so far🤗Hope to be able to leave the, all together soon.
One thing you might want to try that has made a differenc for me quite quickly was supplementing with potassium. Research has shown that RA sufferers are generally déficient on this and that supplementing has reduced pain and inflammation. Latest study 2016.
Thank you Simba 😊
I've been taking it daily for 2 years. I make my own Golden Paste. Just make sure you buy good quality tumeric and you're good to go! Follow Doug English, the Australian Vet's Tumeric User Group Facebook Page. I recently noticed another group recently started up under the same name, so make sure it is Doug English! Good luck!
Found this on a arthritis research sit

Turmeric
Origin: A yellow-colored powder ground from the root of the turmeric plant. The turmeric plant grows in India and Indonesia and is related to the ginger family (it is a common ingredient in curries). Curcumin is a key chemical in turmeric.
Claims: Reduces pain, inflammation and stiffness related to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA); treats bursitis. Known as a cleansing agent, turmeric often is used as a digestive aid in India.
What we know: Traditionally used in Chinese and Indian Ayurvedic medicine to treat arthritis turmeric/curcumin blocks inflammatory cytokines and enzymes, including cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), the target of celecoxib (Celebrex).
Studies: Several recent studies show that turmeric/curcumin has anti-inflammatory properties and modifies immune system responses. A 2006 study showed turmeric was more effective at preventing joint inflammation than reducing joint inflammation.
A 2010 clinical trial found that a turmeric supplement called Meriva (standardized to 75 percent curcumin combined with phosphatidylcholine) provided long-term improvement in pain and function in 100 patients with knee OA.
In a small 2012 pilot study, a curcumin product called BCM-95 reduced joint pain and swelling in patients with active RA better than diclofenac, an nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
Dosage: Capsules, extract (more likely to be free of contaminants) or spice. For OA: Capsule, typically 400 mg to 600 mg, three times per day; or 0.5 g to 1 g of powdered root up to 3 g per day. For RA: 500 mg twice daily.
"Curcumin makes up only about 2 to 6 percent of turmeric, so be sure to check the standardized amount of curcumin," advises Randy Horowitz, MD, medical director of the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine in Tucson.
High doses of turmeric can act as a blood thinner and cause stomach upset. Avoid turmeric/curcumin if you take blood thinners such as warfarin (Coumadin), are about to have surgery, are pregnant or have gallbladder disease.
Thank you northside2 for your reply😊Yes I am familiar with Dr Axe and all the well known specialists in functional medicine. Have been doing research since diagnosed with RA Dec 2015. I have been able to control my RA exclusively with diet and supplements but also with LDN. I still have pain that I need pain meds for and am hoping turmeric would get me off ibuprofen and tylenol. Still also adjusting my diet.
Been taking the golden paste with warm coconut milk in the morning and it is soooo good😊
Any update Simba? Just wondering how you're getting on? I made this for the first time today
Hello Rachfaul,
Thank you for asking😊 I am doing fine. Thinking about increasing my golden paste daily dose to 2 tsps, morning and evening to see if I could exhange my 200mg ibuprofen in the evening with paracetamol. Would be my last step away from Nsaids.😊
I have also been using progesterone cream supplement for a couple of weeks now. Waiting to see if any effect.
Best of luck with your golden paste. It may take some time for you to feel the effect so be persistant! Xx Simba
Thanks for your update Simba, really glad to hear you've been able to reduce your meds so well. I'm currently taking 500mg naproxen twice a day which I'd like to reduce. Due to start on sulfasalazine in the next couple of weeks but hoping I can add in this to help with the inflammation. I had been taking turmeric capsules up until a couple of weeks ago and think (with hindsight!) they helped so hoping taking it this way will be more effective!
