PIP success!!

Pink75928 profile image
42 Replies

I just woke up in the early hours and for some reason checked my bank. And there’s been a payment from DWP which can only be for PIP. I’m in absolute shock!! From the amount I suspect it’s the standard rate for both but I can’t believe they awarded it first time. Thank you all you lovely people for support and help xxx

Thank you guys. Does anyone know what qualifies for a blue badge? Is it the higher rate mobility?

I had a blue badge before aplying for PIPand you didn't need pip but maybe its different in different counties as I have heard this before

That's what I was thinking....I did mine online & it is automatic if you have high rate mobility but it says you still can apply if not. I have a friend on low but she has copd so was given it without a question.

I was a couple of points below being awarded standard Mobility when I first received PIP but applied for a BB & was given one. I did have to do a remote assessment though. It's not quite as straightforward as saying if you get standard Mobility you automatically qualify because if you don't there are other reasons you may. This is from gov.uk

People who automatically get a Blue Badge -

you receive a Personal Independence Payment (PIP) because you can’t walk more than 50 metres (a score of 8 points or more under the ‘moving around’ activity of the mobility component).

you receive the mobility component of PIP and have obtained 10 points specifically for descriptor E under the ‘planning and following journeys’ activity, on the grounds that you are unable to undertake any journey because it would cause you overwhelming psychological distress

If you have any score other than 10 points under descriptor E, in the ‘planning and following journeys’ activity of PIP you may still be eligible for a Blue Badge, but you do not automatically qualify. This includes if you have a higher score of 12. You will have to provide evidence to demonstrate your eligibility which will be assessed as part of your application. gov.uk/government/publicati...

HiWould you happen to know how to get a travel pass with Standard Rate PiP too>

Thanks

nomoreheels profile image
nomoreheels in reply toMJSlide1958

I can't be sure if it's nationwide or if it's different for London for example but in my area it’s if you have at least 8 points in the Moving Around part, that would be that you can stand and then move between 20 and 50 metres without any help. Could you check your local County Council/s site for specifics in your area?

Oh no way!! I did not know this. That is handy as I have days when I’m rubbish at driving

in reply toPink75928

Me too. Local library did my application (in Scotland). 💕

I feel like PIP is a gateway benefit to getting other financial assistance. I feel so relieved. Feel like all my difficulties are now validated. Does that make sense?

Oh that’s fabulous. That alone will give me a much higher quality of life. Along with buying ready prepared vegetables. If you know, you know 😆

Great news , make sure you get it in writing as the letter allows you to apply for blue badges, look up what level allows you free car tax, a free carer ticket at theatres , cinemas etc .lots of help.( soz the underline isn't highlighted but I can't getbit off!)

That's great. I'm pleased you're pleased. Once you receive notification of your award you'll see if you automatically qualify for a Blue Badge. You automatically qualify if you scored 8 in the moving around part or 10 in the planning and following journeys part of your PIP assessment, or that's what it was when I got mine, it's been a while. If you don’t automatically qualify you may still be eligible but you'll need to be assessed. You can check online though when you get your award letter.

Nice one it’s a lovely feeling isn’t it! Pleased for you . Blue badge is different in local authorities I was on no award mobility had 4 points but did a assessment and got one ! I’m now trying to get mobility on pip sent evidence so fingers crossed 🤞. It’s such a shame we have such a fight to get anything! Take care x

I feel like I’ve been really lucky as was awarded so quick. But then it reminds me of how bad the RA is now. Of course, given a choice we’d all rather be healthy. But this will be life changing and allow me such a better quality of life. My 21 year old daughter does a lot for me and she’s moving out this year, so it’s come at the right time. I hope you get the award that suits your needs xxx

Thank you agree I got my award first time and blue badge felt extremely lucky but as you say double edge sword it made some people wake up to what Ra and Fybromyalgia is and how it’s at times life changing!! We don’t want this but yes the badge & pip money helps no end ! All the best xx

In fact it apparently often depends on how many blue badges are applied for in an area. Only a certain number are allowed. In an area with a high number of elderly drivers I should imagine it would be harder to get, than in an area with a younger population.

nomoreheels profile image
nomoreheels in reply toAgedCrone

I live in an area with a high percentage of elderly & I told exactly the same when I applied for a BB. I didn't receive the Mobility component of PIP at first, I was a couple of points short, so decided to try anyway. I did have to do a remote assessment but, thankfully, I was a given one. It's so helpful on bad days if I have no alternative but to go out.

I know people in their 70’s with great mobility problems who have been refused & are on waiting lists….so don’t believe everything websites promise.Like everything to do with. State Benefits…it’s the luck of the draw in most cases.
