Hip and leg pain

Hi all haven't posted in a while but still read all the posts

I'm having a lot of pain in my lower back hip and outside of my leg (all left side) I'm on the waiting list for a right knee replacement had the left knee replaced 14 years ago

This pain is driving me mad It's a pain that seems to start in my sacroiliac joint and goes from there to my hip and right down outside of my thigh to my ankle The only way I get ease is to knead the joints affected and while this is really painful it's the only way I get some ease I've seen gp and physio who gave me excercises but it doesn't help I know i've got wear and tear in my spine but i'm wondering if any of you have these symptoms, if so i would love to hear if you know what it is I thought it was bursitis but Physio said no I should mention i have rheumatoid and Osteo Arthritis Grateful for any knowledge

Go to BBC and look up yesterday Con or Cure with Dr Zand he was explaining this topic in detail yesterday with a consultant RA doctor. Apparently it's vital to keep moving, no bed rest and they did excercises to relieve. The exercises were the same as our Osteopath prescribes and do work. Hop that helps. x

Yes, I get almost identical symptoms on my right side. I have ankylosing spondylitis, so my sacroiliac joints are fused as well as a lot of damage to the spine. I’ve got severe spinal stenosis. I’ve missed 6 out of the last 10 weeks of my immunosuppressants, due to surgery, and then these past 2 weeks, I’ve had a chest infection. I’m certain mine is just a build up of inflammation where the spinal stenosis is. It feels at times like someone is gnawing my lower leg, and intensifies till I admit defeat and sit down. I’m on amitriptyline, so the GP has doubled my dose for now. I’m also doing exercises specifically for spinal stenosis, which do seem to help as well. I also have bursitis on the same side, but because I was having the foot surgery, my rheumatologist couldn’t inject. However, he said meantime to use an nsaid gel, and he’ll inject in July if it’s still an issue. I can’t take NSAIDs due to a previous stroke. What I’d give to have one day, where pain wasn’t at the forefront of my day. Hope you find something that helps. I do also find heat pads help.

It driving me crazy at the moment keeps me wakened at night I have a consultation (phone) at the end of this month with my Gp so i'll see what he has to say If i don't get anywhere i think i'll get in touch with rheumatologist I'm on methroject injections sulphasalazine Amitrypline ropenidrol tramadol etc

I'd be interested in the specific exercises you mention for spinal stenosis. I've asked the physio but really all she did was check how I do my present exercises and nothing specifically for the spinal stenosis. I too get constant pain in the lower back and down the left leg from it and it is less if I keep moving.

Here’s a good website, with videos demonstrating the exercises

Many thanks - now I understand why the physio didn't give me any other exercises! They include the ones I'm doing already. I just need to do them more often I think.

I discovered when I had an MRI when I fractured my sacrum that I have osteoarthritis in both hips and trochanteric bursitis in my right hip. That is a very unpleasant pain - makes me think of the relentlessness of toothache but in my hip. I have never done anything about it - a physio I know suggested I ask for a steroid injection to give me a break from the pain but I can’t see the point because people I’ve seen and heard of having them seem to need to have them repeated which suggests to me they are only a temporary solution - besides I think they are fairly painful and I’m a wimp. I tend to feel the bursitis when I lie on that side so I lie on a cushion that sort of lifts me off it which helps a lot.

Bear in mind I’m no expert - the pain going right down from the sacroiliac joint to your ankle sounds like sciatica which is an unpleasant pain too. I had that years ago and I used to stand in the shower and know I was washing my leg because I could see that I was doing it but I couldn’t feel it which was pretty weird. If your physio hasn’t suggested a sacroiliac stretch to help you then maybe ask about that. I find moving - Pilates stretches and walking are what keep me going and kee the pain at bay.

Check out Moomin8 post a few days ago. There seems to be lots of us suffering with this Including me. It's agony!

My identical symptom is attributed to lumbar spine disorder and drug-induced sarcopenia. The surgeon dealing with my left knee recommends letting it get a lot worse before knee surgery.

I’m suffering at the moment with pain in my rt hip just below the hip bone which travels down thigh. This hip is a replacement hip and physio I’ve seen says on examination that’s it’s an inflamed tendon and she’s given a steroid injection into where it’s most painful. I’m having this done today so I’ll see if it makes any difference 🤞🏻
