Just read that it is SO important to go to sleep by 10pm!
Having just spent the night listening to the creaks and groans of the house, trundling to the toilet and watching the clock until 4.15am then falling to sleep to the sound of the dawn chorus I ask myself where does that leave me?
Haven’t had a decent sleep since the clock changed!
Nighty night folks !❤️

Yes there was an article in The Times on Saturday advising bedtime between 10 and 11 pm. I’m usually in bed by 11 and asleep by midnight, but I wake several times during the night. That’s not good either according to my Rheumy. We all need the deep sleep periods for our bodies to regenerate apparently and boy do our RA racked bodies need it!!
I used to sleep well but lately have been up 4 or 5 times a night to urinate. I was diagnosed as having an over active bladder by the nurse in the local bladder control service and recently have been prescribed the medication Mirabegron which may take a while to see the effect. This have been going on for a while and there is no UTI. I think I need to see a urologist to get to the bottom of the problems. Otherwise I can't concentrate and feeling tired all day.
Any suggestion on what is the main issue causing the sleep disturbance, bladder or others?
Yes. It is when your bladder sticks to the outside bag and your bladder is smaller and irritated. I was given a weekly medication for six weeks and it was sorted. I used to have a terrible dull ache behind my tummy button! Like period pain in the wrong place. The consultant did a laparoscopy and explained what was wrong with me.
My RD is not so well controlled atm, so my sleep has been quite disturbed.But...
Prior to this spell, I altered my bedtime to between 10 and 10.30 PM, really bought into the whole sleep hygiene thing (I used to teach this, but I guess I was programmed to transmit to others, not do myself 😣) and it did make a difference.
Having a cool, unheated room to go to bed is one of my key differences, but I do have a lightweight electric over blanket, on the Intel setting, and I wear cashmere socks for the Raynaulds in my feet.
I don't eat after 5pm either, my gut really likes it and I sleep better.
I hope you get a better sleep tonight .....zzzz....
Yes, that 10.00 - 11.00 bedtime has me running fr bed before 11.00 although I prefer to try and get there soon after 10.00. I’m sleeping ok but I’m always hungry by 4.30 - sometimes even 3.30. Other half not impressed but as I say to him I never eat after tea so what difference does it make when I have it? Unfortunately it makes a difference to him so we eat at a sensible time.
You could always try doing what we do in Pilates, it’s good for you but it’s also relaxing and good for helping you get off to sleep if you waken during the night - you breathe in to a steady count of four, hold that breath for the same count of four, breathe out for the same steady count of four and then count to four before you breathe in to start all over again. Relax your tongue in your mouth and relax your jaw. It’s worth giving it a try if you wake up like that again.
I know how you feel but it is the other way round for me. I go to bed between 10 and 10.30pm and I am out like a light but wake up about 3am and don't get back to sleep. I feel like a bat. I go downstairs and do sodoku, minesweeper or right numerous lists of things I need to do. Very annoying.
Hello! I find that watching tv with subtitles on and very low sound gets me off - it's the only thing that works for me when I either can't get to sleep or wake in the early hours due to pain or stress
The person who discovers a way to solve sleeping probably doesn’t exist….but for what it’s worth…..worrying about not sleeping does not help, & for most people it solves itself…..it’s a bit like RA…once you accept you’ve got it, it usually gets easier. (I edited that..I obviously need more sleep 🥱😴.
If you look on information on sleep clinics you will find people who insist they had no sleep at all…in fact did sleep….just not as much as they thought they should.
Hi, I know it’s a total pain in the ass. However you need to be nice to yourself, I like you can be awake till 3 or 4. When you class 2 am as a win. I listen to relaxing music and daydream about places I have been and loved. At least our bodies are getting a rest if we are not. Most nights I can be in the happy memory place and it helps. As I said be kind to yourself.
Thank you! I guess it is not too serious if you are retired like me. I could sleep anytime I like but I do wish sometimes it was like everyone else but not Batwoman!
Lol, most nights I say to myself early to bed tonight, then find myself heading to bed around 1:30. I then have to wake at 7am, for steroids, as I don’t produce any myself, and wake zombie like till they kick in. My problem is I’ll be watching an episode of something on TV, and then it offers to let you watch the next episode, and before I know it I’ve clicked the button 😂😂. I have a Fitbit which tells me how long I slept and the quality of my sleep, so I’m currently making note of the data on a spreadsheet trying to show myself what affect sleep gas on my pain etc
I am the same! Started watching Vera two hours then another came up Oh well, don’t have to get up tomorrow and before you know it- 2.45am. Stupid I know- but I love Vera ❤️
I always follow my mums advice that sleep is a great healer. So… does that apply when, like last night, I fell asleep on the settee, must have been about 11pm, & woke at 6am. Had a total of 2 hours in bed! I did drop off straight away so it was a solid 2 hours. 🙄
It is a nuisance, since the clocks have changed my sleep is all over the place. Woke this morning to sun on my face I should be happy with good weather but I was furious. Such third world issues my OH would say but he sleeps like a log🙋🏻♀️
