How often do your flares usually last Wendy? Your op's a month away yet & I'm sure those involved in the various stages of your pre op assessment.... anaesthetist, surgeon, nurses taking BP, swabs etc will advise if they're concerned. I know it's easy for me to say but try not to stress too much, you know that it can exacerbate things.

Take good care & hope the op makes a big difference.

Some meds need to be stopped before and for a period after an operation so it may be your rheumy team you need to contact as to which meds need to be stopped and when and what you can use or do in the mean time to control and help before your op. Farm

I imagine that you've discussed rheumy meds already. At the preop they'll tell you what meds to leave off before the op, in my case it's some diabetes ones. They'll check heart, blood pressure, whether you have infections etc. Keep away from coughs and colds.

I have my knee replacement next week, RA is rumbling away, I'm wondering whether the post op morphine will help.

I'd say that the preop is to see how you'll be in the op.

Hope all goes well

I'd be less inclined to worry about flaring than heart, chest, circulation things. I'm trying to do gentle exercise so that I stay a bit flexible. I'll try to blog about experience. At present I'm between realisation that I need the op, badly, and fear of the Unknown. I'm trying to distract myself at the moment! And routine helps. Friends dropping in to wish me good luck is nice but gives me the heebie Jeebies too!

Don't get in a rush to leave hospital - I left after 3 days and should really have stopped another night. When you leave make sure you know what time and which meds you have taken that day. Have a couple of easy meals ready for the first couple of days it will affect your whole body. Farm
