Do any one regularly take Turmeric or Turmeric with black pepper ? What strength? Is there any contra indication to MTX?
Would be nice to hear your opinion or experience to see whether it is beneficial to the inflammation and pain.

I take Turmeric with curcumin , ginger and black pepper . It’s from a British company Nutrition Geeks 2000mg Turmeric . I’ve taken them for the past 18 months this particular brand . Find them great . I also have a diet quite high in natural anti inflammatories
I think some people have found it helpful in reducing inflammation. The active ingredient is curcumin and it’s better absorbed by the body if it’s in conjunction with piperine (black pepper).
Yes. Do you have any experience yourself?
I have taken it in the past but I’m not convinced it had much effect. I need the RA drugs! I took Curcumin Megasorb by Nature’s Best which was recommended by a nutritionist
I take it along with some other vitamins. . xxxx
Been taking it for years. Not noticed any negative effects. Con amore Bxx
Hi. I think there’s turmeric in Sulfasalazine which I take twice daily (and have done for ten years alongside Mx). It is a natural anti-inflammatory.
The active ingredient in sulphasalazine is sulphasalazine!

There are a few fillers also added to the tablets but unfortunately no turmeric.
Ok!
I had turmeric with black pepper and kept coughing RA nurse said it was MTX and the black pepper not mixing well so only just turmeric if taking. As soon as I stopped the one with black pepper I stopped coughing
I did try it for two months. It made no difference to the pain, gave me indigestion and the colour of it seemed to get everywhere. I still use it as a flavouring, though, because I like the taste in spicy foods.
Hi old-timer, I took turmeric and black pepper for a long time but stopped as I think it turned the soles of my feet yellow and I thought maybe I wasn't absorbing it....
Thank you very much for all your comments which are useful and most appreciated
I've taken turmeric capsules for about a year. Started with turmeric and black pepper now just turmeric - only because turmeric/black pepper were out of stock. I'm on 10mg Metoject and haven't had a flare for over 2 years. I'll continue with the turmeric for now 😊
I took turmeric and was my sure about how it would react with MTX when I asked my doctor he laughed and said if it worked nobody in his country would suffer from RA if it did!
Have taken turmeric for 3 years now has enabled me to reduce mtx I take one capsule of 1400mg daily I checked with my. Consultant first I highly recommend it I flares for 18 months now xx
I take Advanced Turmeric with BioPurine, which contains black pepper, from the Autoimmune Institute. 500mg per capsule, & taking 3 a day.l so far.My perception is that it is helping with my Arthritis, but I am also on steroids. I am reducing the steroids and increasing the Tumeric at the mo. My Rheumatologist said there is clinical evidence that it is effective, but there are many different formulations out there.
I have just started taking turmeric with circuit and black pepper so can't comment at the moment. The black pepper is supposed to assist with the digestion of the turmeric.
I make turmeric lattes. I include ginger cinnamon bulk pepper etc. I use it because it can’t hurt. There are places in the world where turmeric is consumed daily...Alzheimer’s is rare.I have walnuts with my cereal everyday. I have read that if you consume walnuts regularly, that after two yrs it helps with pain mgmt. I have arthritis and osteo arthritis but almost no pain. Rarely take pain killers, ie perhaps once in three months. Also have PMR. Was on crutches a few yrs ago, sometimes could not walk because of inflammation and now I am dancing
Personally I haven’t found it helpful so I don’t take it.
Took a supplement that had black pepper added (apparantly works better ) no idea if it helped. Had an erratic year taking my MTX so lots of flares. Also while in hospital for hip replacement surgery blood was found in my vomit so I decided to stop taking the supplement. Now I take Actimel with added tumeric. I need to research this more methinks.
The rheumy drugs nurse asked me if I took any supplements at the start of my RD meds. She said there's a lot I shouldn't take, but gave me the thumbs up on the ones I do take (sporadically!) - turmeric, and on CBD too
I took tumeric for a couple of months and didn't notice any difference at all to my inflammation.
I use a brand called Truvani. Has all the necessary components to make it bioavailable and no fillers.
I took 1000 mg with black pepper everyday for a while. I don’t know if it helped or not as I was on triple therapy at that time and was desperate for anything natural that helped. But my blood work (ALT)was also elevated and neutrophils were low. Asked my Rheumy on her thoughts on turmeric and her response was “there is no money to be made on these products so there is not enough research on its effectiveness or interactions with different drugs”. I took Natures Bounty brand here in Canada. The label at back says to consult a physician if you take it beyond 12 weeks. Anyhow, I figured that because of warning label even though it’s a natural product and nobody really knows whether it helps or not, or possible interactions with my RA medications I reduced my intake of turmeric from daily to once weekly for number of years now. Currently, I take 5 mg of MTX with folic acid only. For vitamins I take vitamins D, omega 3 and calcium daily. Turmeric 1000 mg ONCE a week. On medicated remission. My bloodwork is back to normal.🙂
Please be aware that there are some so called health products that can harm us due to immunity. I was told by Rheumatologists not to take Tumeric or anything else while on Abatacept. Many products and foods can make us very poorly. please check with Rheumatology before using anything other than your meds. TOO many vitamins can also harm us.
