Hi everyone. I am finding turmeric really helpful with regard to inflammation. I am due my first rheumatology appointment on 3rd January and I guess it would be sensible for me to stop taking turmeric beforehand. Any suggestions as to when I should stop taking it please?
Turmeric: Hi everyone. I am finding turmeric really... - NRAS
Turmeric
I don't think it matters to be honest. I eat loads of the stuff, shove it in rice and everything else. Doesn't seem to make a difference to me in terms of inflammation (my markers are still high). But I figure it doesn't do any harm, plus I like the taste.
Others may say something different though. Good luck with the appointment.
Sorry. Also meant to say I'm really glad turmeric is helping you.
If you were asking about an anti inflammatory or pain relief I'd say 2 or 3 days but I'm not sure how quickly we completely eliminate turmeric from our body. But as it's definitely working on your inflammation I think it's a valid question & would hazzard a guess no more than a week should be enough.
I hope your appointment goes well, do keep us updated. Jan 3rd is a popular day, my h has another angiogram that day!
Nice! Why would you need to stop taking it (just curious)
Only because it's helping with her inflammation. At her diagnostic appointment her Rheumy needs to see her at her worst with nothing masking her inflammation, or pain for that matter, in order to have reliable blood tests, imaging & examination. It's also important once diagnosed for her Rheumy to form her treatment plan & doses.
Oh right - got it. That makes perfect sense. Trying to convince a doctor that you really are sick and not just making up things.... I know the meds are strong for treatment of this disease (or actually range of diseases - they seem to come in groups), but really? Who would claim this if they weren't really sick? Maybe because of the two different healthcare systems? My insurance had to approve payment of mine at some ridiculous dose cost like $6k per dose. The price almost gave me a heart attack along with RA.
I was so silly in that regard. I tried to do the opposite because I was convinced that I could not possibly have something like RA, so I went in taking everything I could and STILL couldn't convince them not to medicate me.
I wish I could take turmeric. It sounds like it helps people pretty well. I'm just too allergic to it.. I got yelled at for that too (well not really yelling, but a stern talking to), when I told my GP I was trying it. We had the whole - "You're allergic to that you know?" "Yes I know." Why are you taking something that inflames the situation?", etc., etc. So I stopped it..
So, best of luck there to both her and your hubby on the 3rd there.
I have to have periodontal surgery on the 4th (must be a popular period... ha ha). I have a broken molar that has eroded the bone, so, tooth out, bone grafts in. Yehaaa!! (not really)
It's more that he needs to see her at her worst, with nothing influencing the disease, so completely med or supplement free. It's really important when being diagnosed so he knows how affected (or not) she is by the disease.
Thanks for your good wishes. I hope your dental work goes well, ouch.
Absolutely - That makes sense to me. Thanks to you too - yeah - not looking forward to the bone grafts, but I need my mouth (although some would disagree)
Thanks to everyone for your responses. I will stop turmeric and various supplements about a week before. I think my insides must be bright yellow by now
