Antibiotics-MTX?

I’m on a weeks course of Antibiotics, should l inject my methotrexate this week or not, first time on antibiotics while taking MTX . Thanks Kate

I was always told no but I would try contact the rheumy helpline or secretary to get clarification.

The answer is 'It depends'. If you are likely to have a flare if you miss a dose, then don't.

Otherwise many people feel more comfortable missing a dose while on antibiotics as it might just help your immune system to fight off the infection.

However, as methotrexate is a long acting preparation, logically it should not make much difference and there is little evidence to back up either view.

Oh this a controversial one . Conflicting advise . I’ve been told to stop and not take until 7 days often I finish antibiotics. Best check with your clinic. We’re you not given advice before you started ?

I’ve taken antibiotics and mtx but my GP has always looked up which ones are ok to take with it. Having said that I’ve had to remind them I’m on mtx many times and they’ve then changed the prescription. I’d call and ask the GP. Get well soon 😊

I have always be told not to but I'm in remission so you should check.Unfortunately Mtx lowered my immunity so I was getting constant infections thus numerous antibiotics it was a vicious cycle so I came off Mtx and been very well.

Always ask your doctors about these things first. It also may depend on what exact antibiotics you are prescribed. If your doctor did not explain this then they have not done their job properly.

I am on anti biotics at moment and am not injecting my metho until they are finished x
