Antibiotics
Check with your pharmacist
Closed now until Monday and I need to take them for bad chest infection, dont no if I should stop taking hydroxychloroquine
Can you try ringing Boots or another pharmacy and speak to their pharmacist before Saturday closing? Most Boots are open all through the weekend. Hope you feel much better very soon.
You must check with your doctor, some medication mixes can be fine for one person but not another..it all depends on a person’s state of health & what other drugs they are on.
As it is the weekend, I would ask your pharmacist’s. advice before you start taking anything.
Hi Alice 70. Do you have a Tesco near you with an in-store pharmacy? If so, you could ring them and ask the pharmacist - ours are open until 8 pm and are very helpful.
Don’t know if this is any help for you nhs.uk/medicines/hydroxychl...
Read the leaflet that comes with your hydroxy. Any serious contraindications will be listed in this.
I took hydroxy for 8 years and this was not an issue I ever came across. (With methotrexate there are clear interactions with trimethoprin and similar antibiotics and this is clearly stated in my leaflet)
Normally if you are sick and taking antibiotics you are supposed to wait until your are well before starting back up on your medication. I would ask your doctor. Take care,
Geneen
Hi
when you were prescribed the antibiotic _your Dr would be known you we’re on hydroxychloroquine and felt there would have been no issues so it should be ok….it’s not like you are going to take them in parallel for a long time… just the two weeks?
I’d ask the pharmacist though if you are worried…
It is usually macrolide antibiotic group that have to be avoided, doxycycline is a tetracycline and is not listed in the BNF as interacting with hydroxychloroquine. You should confirm with a pharmacist, there are many open on Saturdays, or 111 can advise.
all i know is dont sit in the sun or u will get skin issues too😭. I am on my 2nd lot of meds for chest infection. Hope u get better soon
please make sure you get it doubled checked. I did ask and I was misinformed and told I was fine. 24hrs later I was on a drip lying in a hospital bed with broken ribs and fractured shoulder all due to a bad reaction to some antibiotics.
I take hydroxychloroquine together with other meds. I have taken multiple courses of all sorts of antibiotics over the last 3 years in particular including doxycycline, Azithromycin which I take constantly 3 times a week and Clarithromycin. I have never been told not to take them together. However, I have severe asthma and bronchietasis and hence the need to control infections quickly is paramount. I would call your local pharmacy to discuss. I would not stop taking anything however, but get advice. I hope this helps.
I was told by my gp to stop taking all meds, including mtx ,benapali, etc, for 2 weeks give the antibiotics chance to work.
RA meds we know lowers one's immunity. As antibiotics are given to fight infections etc,i would think best not take any ra meds for any antibiotic to work efficiently ,until you feel better.
That's just my unqualified opinion,based on I think,common sense!
Hi, I take 200mg hydroxychloroquine once a day and was given a course of doxycycline 100 mg capsules one a day for 3 months alongside Prednisolone sodium phosphate minims eye drops. I have ten days prescription left to take, made sure I read the leaflets before starting and had no problems at all (was prescribed by the ophthalmologist at the hospital) health care can be very confusing but hope this helps.
With doxycycline they have told you to stay upright 30 mins after with and no dairy products 2 hours either side of taking it with 200 ml of only water? I was on a 6 week course of it but on different ones now. Sorry if you already know.but most don't. X
