Hi all. Hope you’re all keeping safe and well. I have a pneumonia vaccine today. Is this going to make me unwell? It’s mixed reviews online. The covid vaccine trigged an immune response so I was very “fluey” xxx
Pneumonia Vaccine : Hi all. Hope you’re all keeping... - NRAS
Pneumonia Vaccine
I had the pneumonia vaccine and the flu vaccine at the same time last year and felt unwell for several weeks afterwards. However I think it was probably that the two vaccines together was too much for my system. Hope you have no problems.
I had no reaction to the pneumonia or flu jabs
I had no reaction to the pneumonia jab and have never had a reaction to the flu jabs.
This all sounds positive. Thank you for putting my mind at rest xx
No problems when I had it - in one arm with flu vac in the other.
Hi same for me just a sore arm.
Dear Pink75928,
I can't say if you will have a reaction, to this vaccine- I didn't but then I have Vasculitis, which is a 'Different' Condition to yourself. I would speak to, your own Doctors/ Consultants, if you are Worried. Under 'Normal' circumstances I would recommend 'talking' to your GP. You could ask to speak, to your Local Pharmacist- an often 'overlooked resource'. These people are Highly Qualified..... and only 'tend' to ONLY be asked about Nappy Cream! Maybe have a 'chat'?

I had 2 different pneumonia vaccines with no reaction other than a slight sore arm for a couple of days. The covid vaccines made me extra tired for a couple of days.
I had no reaction to it either.
I had that a few weeks ago, I had a dead arm for a couple of days but other than that i felt ok. Hopefully you will be the same.
I had it at 11am abs so far so good 😊
Hi just a very sore arm 😀
Just a very very sore and achy arm and a slight rash around the site but other than that I felt well.
No reaction at all when I had the pneumonia vaccine.
When I had it some time ago I had no reactions, just a sore arm. my wife was told not to have it as she takes Methotrexate.
That’s strange. I was told to have it because I take methotrexate. Have a little bit of a temperature today and a very achey arm. Hopefully that’ll ease off though
Definitely true, but some years ago, I was with her. The actual words were that it is not advisable to have live vaccines when taking Methotrexate. This was from older very experienced doctor and Pharmacist and as been repeated many times since when RA staff have asked the question.
I have just read that it is not a live vaccine, will make more enquiries next we see a doctor.
Just to say that I was also told to have the pneumonia jab by my rheumy consultant when I was first diagnosed and prescribed Methotrexate and Hydroxychloroquine. I double checked with the GP, pharmacist and the nurse giving me the jab (!) and they all confirmed that it is was OK.
I was told in the autumn of 2019 when I had my pneumonia vaccine to leave a gap between Rtx and the vaccine. On the advice of my biologics rheumy nurse I left 8 weeks. Some RA meds are said to make the vaccine less effective. Also the same for Mtx to not have it a week either side of the vaccine. Differing opinions from doctors but my rheumy said they always recommend flu and pneumonia vaccines for their RD patients and they’re going to be on various Mtx/DMARD’s/biologics. I would say to ask the rheumy re your wife’s situation if it is the GP who has said no to Mtx and the pneumonia vaccine. Everyone is different and your wife may have other reasons that the GP has said no.
Nope no reaction but then I didn't have flu reactions either. Plus no reaction to covid jabs. Some do so don't.
Hi Pink75928, you should be ok its not a live vaccine so it is ok for us to have it. I didn't suffer any side effects.
Take care.
No side effects for me with pneumonia vaccine. The flu jab always makes me ill for about a week which is even worse than the reaction from the Pfizer covid vaccine 1st one I was ok just a very heavy arm but 2nd one made me feel rough for about a week but still wasn’t as bad as flu jab. So we are all different and different vaccines have different side effects or maybe it’s just me. Hope you’re not unwell and in any event it was still probably worth having.
My GP called me in to have the pneumonia vac at the beginning of the first lockdown. I remember feeling a bit under the weather for a few days but was warned that would be the case as they'd jabbed me against every strain known to man, I think. I'm not sure if that's normal practice or if they were just being over cautious. Much better than getting pneumonia though. Good luck.
