Reaction to pneumonia vaccine?

Hi all - just wondering if anyone has experienced a reaction to the pneumonia vaccine? I had my jab on Wednesday morning and started feeling nauseous on Friday night, with loose bowels. Woke up on Saturday feeling exhausted, weak, headachey, vaguely queasy with lack of appetite and diahorrea a few times, all continuing into today (Sunday). Never felt like this before and I’m not normally prone to tummy upsets, so wondering if it’s the vaccine?

It could be Norovirus. I had it a fortnight ago. The Pneumonia jab never affected me.

Thank you - definitely thinking tummy bug now.

It doesn't strike me diarrhoea is a side effect to the Pneumovax. Maybe it's coincidence & you've picked up a bug, common this time of year. The others, headachey, nausea/queasiness might be, as could muscle weakness if that's what you mean (or is it all over weakness?) could be, so it might be a combination of the two? If you're no better tomorrow or running a temp I'd see or call your GP if you're not up to going in. Stay warm & keep your fluids up, horrible symptoms so be kind to yourself & rest today. x

Seems an unlikely set of symptoms for the pneumonia jab. I didn't notice that I had had it - no different afterwards.

I’ve never reacted to any type of vaccination before, so now convinced it’s a tummy bug. X

I had the pneumonia vaccination just over a week ago. No problems. As someone has previously mentioned you may have the noravirus Which may have been lurking in the background.

I don't remember any reaction to the pneumonia vacation when I had it a few years ago.

Now convinced it’s a tummy bug unconnected to vaccine, and the timing is just a coincidence. X

How are you feeling this morning? I hope you're feeling a bit better.

Hi nomoreheels - I think I’m feeling a bit better today, thank you. Still got a touch of the runs but feeling less tired, weak and generally unwell. Spent most of yesterday snoozing on the sofa, and had a nice long lie this morning (I needed it after being up to the bathroom at 5.30 am!).

I now think that this has indeed been a tummy bug, and the advice seems to be just to let it run it’s course, rest and drink lots, which I’ve been doing, and taking rehydration salts in bottled water.

One good sign I think is that I woke up starving hungry this morning so I guess I’m on the mend!!

I have an appointment tomorrow with the senior practice nurse for my annual diabetic review, so will mention this to her.

Thanks for your advice and care! X

It sounds as though you're over the worst which is good, except for the 5.30am dash. Hunger is a good sign, but if you're still needing the loo keep your fluids up, I know you know but it doesn't harm to remind! Definitely mention it to the SPR though, even if it was 'just' a bug you'll have been flushing out your meds, if you've been taking them, so it may show on your next blood test.

Actually skipped my MTX on Saturday and will give the nurse all the gory details tomorrow! X

That's how I was Soreknees. Up all night throwing up and the runs. By the next day I ate breakfast, no more sickness, but had the runs (sorry, hobbles) for 4-5 days.

Thank you Hidden - the ‘hobbles’ really made me laugh! 😂 I’m relieved that I managed to avoid the throwing up as it’s something that really distresses me for some reason. And of course it’s a bit ironic now that in the (distant!) past, we used to refer to having ‘the trots’ - I don’t think I could trot now if my life depended on it! 😂 X
