Yes! You will benefit from expert specialist advice here. I’d want to see a rheumatologist or orthopaedic surgeon and if you’ve no RA then the OS would be my first point of contact. Good luck and sorry to hear this.

so

Just ask gp to refer me to o/s consultant as I was going to rheumy 2 years ago but they think I have o/s and fibromyalgia so didnt have to go back and now this!!! oh the joys of getting old!!!lol xx

Argh I know! Hugs to you. I hope you can see as OS soon. Maybe ask your GP to refer you to the hospital physio for some advice re exercises? Most physios get patients ready for their replacement ops or just give you exercises and easier ways to do things, ie. standing up. Good luck. xx

Yes! You need to know the extent of the erosion and likely progression. Depending on your age it may mean you are heading for a replacement, or it could just be that awful stage where not bad enough for a replacement (esp if under 60) but b&**dy painful!

I would find a really good physio, the sooner the better. They are really valuable with this kind of problem.

Orthopaedic Surgeon is the one to see. If it's bad enough for a hip replacement you're (sort of) lucky as that's a very successful op. If not bad enough yet, they will offer painkillers and walking aids. You may be able to get some help from a good physio.

My Rheumatologist has referred me to Orthopaedics as my GP is being so useless. January - GP "well I've looked at the X-ray and you can't be in as much pain as you say you are". Just before Easter (when my knee gave way and I couldn't put any weight on it) - "Go to A&E and get some crutches". The appointment came through about 10 days after Rheum appointment for the end of Aug. I'm trying to get a decent Physio appt before Aug as I know Ortho will want me to have some physio before considering a replacement.

Good luck - definitely keep on at your GP for a referral. V
