I worked as a ward sister in elective orthopaedics. Bruises on their own, should not postpone surgery. Only if you have open wounds or skin tears, where there is a risk of infection getting in. I’m sure it will all go smoothly. Good luck

All the best for tomorrow and going forward. In our area restrictions are only for 6 weeks post op. My husband is 14 weeks now and still keeps up his daily exercises.

I just looked after my friend who had a hip op. She said the post op constipation was nearly as bad as the op. Start taking laxatives quickly . She took lactose. Best of luck for today Alice. You won’t know yourself.

I can vouch for that! I remember eating every laxative food I could think of, including canned pumpkin. I think what finally helped was one of my sister's magnesium citrate capsules.

Hopefully you're still on for the surgery and it goes well. Good luck with your recovery, and do all the physio. New hips are great ( I have one, and a new knee on the other side. I'm a new woman!!!)All the best with it xx

Good luck Alice for your surgery. I had one replaced 4 years ago before RA diagnosis and I'm on the list for the other one done, 9/10 months wait in this area, hopefully not longer than that.

I’ve had both hips replaced no problems with both just do all the exercises and you should be fine and keep on top of the pain meds. I also have both knees and a shoulder replacements. Found hips were easier to recover from . Good luck x

I had a long awaited hip replacement just over 3 weeks ago. I was also worried as I had bruises but as Runrig said they were only concerned about cuts and open wounds! Take the painkillers and do the exercises. Everyone says I look as if ive grown 6 inches taller since the operation.

Hello, please do not worry. I'm sure if the bruise is just due to your thinning skin, and the steroids it will not delay your surgery. It is generally only if there is an open wound that an op is delayed. Lots of luck for your op x

Hopefully all goes well for you. I had a hip replacement last year, painful for the first 12 hrs, then I could not believe how easy the post op recovery was.

Hi Alice, hoping that your operation went OK and all over now. Wishing you a speedy recovery, but make sure you do all your exercises. It will be painful but necessary. Good luck👍💖

I'm praying that you're already in recovery and that all went smoothly. Don't feel bad if you're not good as new right away. I faithfully did my physio, but my recovery took a little longer than I had been led to believe. But it's more than four years now, and I have no pain and am able to go for long walks. Fast or slow, I hope your recovery is trouble free.
