When I saw the OT she gave me some foam tubing which you could slip things into (I think that she said that you could get it at DIY stores - pipe lagging??) and also some Cobin tape which you could wrap around until it was a comfortable size which I used on pencils.

lovely thank you , just looking on web about pens seems to be wider /thicker pens and are ball point are the best

Yes I have that problem too and my fingers often lock around a narrow cylinder pen. I bought some Foray comfort grip ballpoint pens from Viking Office last time I was ordering stationery supplies. A box of 12 cost me £9.49. I find them more comfortable to write with as the have a wider body and rubber grip. However, I do tend to type now when I can rather than write because my handwriting looks a bit of a mess!!

I have this problem too my hand seizes if I hold a pen for long and my handwriting is getting spidery!I bought some soft grip wide pens from Amazon. Easier to hold and for longer too. If you have your own slim pens you can buy some grips to put on them as well. They are available from stationers as well eg W H Smith.

I also bought some soft grip scissors.

I've just gone around the house found a couple of pens with grips on so will try these out tomorrow see if it's any better for me and hopefully my handwriting will be a little better x

An alternative to adding a grip might be to get triangular shaped pens which are chunkier and much much easier to hold due to the ergonomics of the triangular shape. They are easily available as are the chunky retractable pencils . They are made by papermate and are 1.3mm .Hope this is helpful 🙂

I use these by Zebra (from Tesco and on online in multipacks of 3 or 5) and I’ve had others similar in the past with a more barrelled cushioned grip.

I have similar probs so tend to type when i can, but for handwritten notes etc I use Papermate flexigrip ultra or Berol First writing pen as used in many schools. You can also buy foam grips to help first year primary schoolers to learn how and where to grip a pen or pencil. Have to admit that some days I don't write at all. Find it difficult to accept RA and OA in both hands... good luck xx

Thank you all ,

As always great help and some really good tips and advice ,as a newbie to Ra thank you x

The best I had was a Bic but I can't get refills for it anymore. The next best is a triangular grip one, slightly larger ball (extra broad( point nib, I find it steadies my hand a little better, makes my handwriting a little less spider-like. Pic below. There are similar ones, same make but they are round, this is where I bought mine from ebay.co.uk/itm/Faber-Castel...

The barrel isn't as thick as some but it's comfortable to hold. Actually I think WH Smith sell the triangular ones too, have a look online.

I have one of these....

It does the job when my hands are sore - you just slide a new pen into the grip when you need to which can be a bit tricky/stiff... works best with thinner pens and pencils.

All the best

It is another small thing that saddens me. I always used to write with a fountain pen and loved it, but no longer. Have not found a pen which allows me to write in anywhere near as neat way as I used to. So, I have found a biro from NASS the most comfortable but if the note is for someone else to read, I type now (usually with lots of typos 😀) Annoying isn't it?

I use a BEROL italic pen. It is wide, green plastic easy to hold and I can still write as if it were a fountain. Also hobby craft sell triangular rubber holders for pens and pencils that you put on your own pen and get instant grip.

Personally I like these. You don’t need to grip them they just rest in your hand. You can also buy refills for them. smile.amazon.co.uk/Handwrit...

Also using children’s trigrips might work for you on existing pens & pencils. smile.amazon.co.uk/HOMMWINS...
