COVID shot

Hi everyone

Anyone here told to not take their methotrexate for a couple of weeks when having the COVID vaccination?

My rheumy suggested I don’t take it a week before and then the week after

No I was told to carry on taking it and I did but there have been a lot of queries about this and everyone has been advised differently. All you can do really is follow your rheumy’s advice for you ( or not, if that’s what you choose). There’s also info on this on the NRAS website.

Got my Pfizer shot on Monday. Yay! I am on tocilizumab and so far no reactions. Had my infusion of toci today. Still no reaction. I was hoping for the Oxford vaccine, then Canada decided it was not good, then today says it is alright again.

Lots of advice on this but most recent appears to be what your rheumy has said and I would always follow your doctors advice. If you look on the magnifying search glass above there are lots of links to advice.

Follow your doctor’s advice. We are all different so there is no one answer. I was also advised to stop drugs, which I did for both doses.

I was told to try to have some separation between my vaccination and my Cimzia injections. I wasn't given any advice on methotrexate by the rheumatology nurse.

Of course we are all different, if you have been given specific advice you should follow it. There may be reasons that you as an individual have been given it

Hi, I hope you don't mind, but how are you getting on with Cimzia Biologic? Also is it so that Cimzia is the Biologic to be on when planning a baby/Pregnancy? Thanks

I have got on well with Cimzia, noticed an improvement within 2 weeks. Sorry can't comment on your other question on babies as I'm a man in my 60s.

Lol Thanks and Good Luck

Thank you all for your thoughts. Her reasons were that some people have stronger reactions to the vaccine if they’ve just had a dose of MTX. So yeah I’ll take her advise ... was just curious 🙂

Yes, everyone has different advice. My rheumy said to leave MTX out for two weeks after the vac - the reason being to allow the vaccine to build immunity.....MTX suppresses immunity.

I wasn't told to not take my methotrexate so I had that and my enbrel. Seems odd on the mixed advices that we get

in reply tomarti

Yes it is.

My daughter is on Enbrel and Methotrexate weekly. She missed one dose of MTX and one dose of Enbrel.

I had the AstraZeneca vaccine and I wasn’t given any advice, so I carried on as normal, no reaction to the jab other than a sore arm, second vaccine is due after 11 weeks.

Hi yes l was told the same as you, stop the week before and after which I did, had the Astra Zeneca with no problems, but 2-3 weeks later had flare up which is still going on now! I was in a good place before the vaccine, just 10 mgs Mtx no painkillers for for 10 months, not sure what to do about 2nd one when it’s due.

Hi, I’ve been on it for a few years now and no I wasn’t told to not take it

I was told to miss the mtx as it was due the day before vax. I'm 2 weeks in and whilst I had a bit of a reaction to the vaccine it didn't effect my next mtx dose the following week.I am having a very weird flare in my hands that has come from nowhere so it's potentially related or pure coincidental but I'm just super happy to be vaccinated 😊
