Cough mixture

Hi was wondering which cough mixture I can have with taking MTX

Hot lemon and honey works as well for me as anything and I’m sure you can have that if on MTX.

Funnily enough the pharmacist wouldn't recommend anything for me. He told me to consult the gp!

I take Bronchostop which my GP suggested. It's herbal- a bit of an acquired taste 😝 but it seems to work for me.

That's weird, I can always get advice from our pharmacists - there are two in our area although we tend to use one almost all the time but the other one is always happy to help.

Give it a go next time you need advice, not forgetting to let them know what meds you take as I'm sure you would anyway. x

He’s not much cop then is he...try another one...last resort ask rheumy nurse...but if you are not diabetic stick to honey & lemon juice...but if you are couching up nasty gunk you need to ask your GP in case you need ABs.

As springcross says, the best person to ask is your Pharmacist, preferably where you get your scripts filled. They often have greater knowledge of meds & interactions than GPs. The only thing I know I shouldn't take for a sore throat (I’m also on MTX) is Tyrozets due to benzocaine. I've not bought otc cough medicines for ages, I prefer making a hot water, fresh lemon & manuka honey drink, so soothing. Ordinary honey could be used if you don't have any manuka.

I’m only taking 7.5mg mthx and chemist advised ok to take Robitussin (dry for me). Works amazing if cough not too severe. Only without cough during main summer months.

I have found the best thing for me is honey and lemon - it works as well as if not better than cough mixture.

oh, thanks for askingthis, I don't have a cough and only been on MTX since November and normally take benyllyn, it wouldn't have occured to me to check so thank you for posting

Hi when I had a cough I asked my pharmacist in boots. She is quite good she always likes to explain everything to me she told me to get pholcodine linctus but she only advised me to get it after she checked online if it was ok with all the other medication I’m on. I would stand in queue and speak to yours. 🙂

The best mixture for me is chamomile with lemon (more than 750gr per day), lemon with honey and the best of all pure propolis.
