There was a very interesting programme on Channel 4 (UK) this evening with Dr Ronx, called "Are Women the Fitter Sex?". It discussed how women and men respond differently to the Covid virus infection, and how clinical testing can fail to take account of meds affecting men and women in different ways. Also how Sodium Valproate (prescribed for epilepsy and migraine) can have devastating effects on unborn children. Worth a look perhaps? The previous programme (BBC 1) The truth about Boosting your Immune System, was also useful albeit confirming the usual suspects - diet, exercise, alcohol, fibre, stress, fast food, massage, etc but still a very timely reminder.

Sounds interesting. I will have a look.
Yes without a doubt fitter, that is why all the world records in endurance are held by women
Fascinating programme, especially as autoimmune diseases more likely in women and worrying how biological differences haven’t been accounted for in clinical trials/data. It reminded me of a book I read a while ago by Angela Saini: Inferior. Thanks for posting x
Is that the one that exposes the lack of consideration of the difference between men and women when developing everything from medicines to safety belts? I haven't read it but heard the author interviewed on Woman's Hour - quite horrifying!
Yes it is, that’s where I heard it originally 😊 my daughter just said about seat belts, I didn’t remember that. It is shocking & needs addressing even though I don’t always think it’s necessarily intentional. Dr Ronx mentioned fears of appearing to be biased by separating women out, ironic really 🙁
Ha, great minds 👍😊 I haven’t read the Caroline Perez one on the programme tho, really fancy that now x
Thanks whaleroad, haven’t read that either, one for my lockdown reading list 👍 Saini is v even handed about historical biases, she did great tv programme on eugenics too, based on her other book, sorry bit depressing in current clime 🙁x
Sorry Hezekiah didn’t mean to hijack your post
Hi kenzie, agree with you it's not the world's best title, but like a newspaper headline it's trying to attract attention while giving a hint as to the topic. Not grossly inaccurate, I felt. I was intrigued by your last sentence, and googled it. I found a good piece potentially written by her/them at independent-360.com/present... including the words "They describe themself as a queer, black, androgynous intersectional feminist." Perhaps tv is becoming more diverse at last?
