Hi everyone what are your thoughts on the Covid vaccine, will you be happy to get it? I'm not into conspiracy theories but I have seen a lot of mixed news on it even from doctors. The CDC website link shows some alarming results stating after 112k+ vaccine conducted 3k+ people were Quote **unable to perform normal duties, unable to work, required care from a doctor or health care professtional..
Covid-19 Vaccine: Hi everyone what are your thoughts on... - NRAS
Covid-19 Vaccine
There was a post recently with a lot of replies about this 😊
healthunlocked.com/nras/pos...
Thank you I also discovered this...pulsetoday.co.uk/news/clini...
Thank you for the link. Hopefully that vac will be good for people who might not build a good enough response to the Astra Zeneca jab.
An interesting article. It seems there’s little point in us having the current ordinary vaccine if it doesn’t give us much protection and we still can’t get back to ordinary living. In time in if everyone around us has the vaccine that will protect us but it will be a long time before that happens. Its good to hear that they are looking for one which will be specifically people with auto immune conditions.
I’ll have no hesitation in getting vaccine.
I am going to have it. xxx
100% will have it.so will my husband
Bring it on .... can’t wait til it’s my turn - no hesitation whatsoever if it means a more “normal” life
There are loads of things in the world that are risky, and we don’t hesitate about them. I don’t just mean being run over by a bus, but things like the little girl recently who died from an asthma attach triggered by road pollution. Or the fact that over half of cancers are related to poor lifestyle.
So the vaccine? YES!!
Hi Helix the worrying report about the new vaccine can be found here at the CDC websight in the US stating after 112k tested 3k had bad effects.
cdc.gov/vaccines/acip/meeti...
If you do the math it’s only 2.7% of people that have a severe problem and I understand it’s mainly a severe allergic reaction in those people who have had one before. That won’t put me off. Yes I will have the vaccine as I’m far more likely to die if I get Covid!
I’ve just done that maths too. And that figure isn’t even severe reactions. It’s for people the next day who couldn’t go to work or perform normal duties, that could include those who had a mild fever or headache so decided to stay in bed. It also gives no indication as to how long these affects last. Personally I’d take having a fever or headache for one or two days over getting Covid any day!
I believe it is also inaccurate as it states there were two cases of anaphylaxis in the UK on the first day. All the other reports I’ve seen have said they were anaphylactoid reactions which are much less severe than anaphylaxis and both people recovered very quickly.
I have a headache the day after my monthly Abatacept infusion but the benefits more than compensate for that. I don’t even think of it as a side effect. I will have no hesitation in having the vaccine if and when it is offered to me.
Don’t believe anything that comes out of USA , thousands of people have reaction to flu jab but millions still have it every year
Frankiefocus, in your reply to Helixhelix above, you wrote "after 112k tested 3k had bad effects" but in your original post you wrote "after 13k+ vaccine conducted 3k+ people...." . Doesn't that mean that one of the figures in your original post is wrong?
I'll definitely have it
post has been updated
I'll take it ASAP!
Please watch this video from NRAS hopefully it will put your mind at rest. You shouldn’t need a Facebook account to watch it. m.facebook.com/story.php?st...
I will have the vaccine when it’s my turn, the sooner we can all get it and get back to some semblance of the life we had before, the better. I so missed my normal Christmas being in tier 4 and all the restrictions. X
Please read nras.org.uk There is a very full explanation on a webinar on there
There isnt any full data on side effects ar the moment as it hasn't been used too long and it has been passed as safe by our regulatory bodies. I will be having it.
I’d love to have it. Unfortunately have been told I can’t as would be in danger of allergic reaction as I also have angiodaema . Just have to rely on herd immunity for the time being😡
My mum is in the same boat. You should be able to have the Oxford one.
They , the Mrha, have stated on tv yesterday that those with food , drink , pollen allergies can now have the vaccines only those allergic to constituents of the vaccine cannot .
Unfortunately I have angio odaema but have no idea what triggers it. Allergy tests show nothing but have ended up in A& E twice with a swollen tongue and throat. So consultant has said to wait a bit and rely on herd immunity. I’ll be getting it as soon as I can
I am going to do what the rheumatology team/go says as they will have to manage the outcomes if it goes awry.
That’s what I am hoping
I'll definitely have when it is offered
All I will say is last week my mother in law died from Covid and she should of been having her vaccine this week. Her health risk was 84 years old and in a care home with vascular dementia and Alzheimer's. We hadn't seen her since Feb and goodbye was a video call. I will certainly be having it ASAP
So sorry for your loss Nyreedw. Thank goodness for the video call. 💕 I was in the same boat with my Dad who passed away a month ago though not from Covid.
The problem is when you don’t know something about something new people go digging for confirmation but all you find is things against, it’s the same if you Google about RA you find alarming things that are not true , just stop digging trying to justify people not to have vaccine it’s scaremongering
I’m all for the vaccines and that’s about all I’m going to say at the moment. I’m not taking notice of any scaremongering and won’t be.
I would like to give my condolences to Nyreedw. So sorry to hear this. 😢💗
Definitely
I am not saying No but I am interested in more data especially to the second dose, before I make the final decision. All I do know is, I need to get out of this shielding side, it is like being under house arrest, but I have had no choice. So time will tell.
My 90 year old Mum had it on the 23rd and she is ok
My 93 year old mum had her first one two weeks ago and is absolutely fine 🙂
If we senior vulnerable people get the coronavirus, we could quite well die. So YES!
So sorry, Nyreedw, about your dear Mother's death💌
There is much misinformation swimming about. Ignore. Go by what your Rheumatologist & other doctors advise. Go for it!
Very little
In medicine is without some degree if risk.
We just need to consider out RA
Meds.
It’s a case of the benefits outweighing there risk, isn’t it?
I will 100% be taking it when the time
Comes x
My mums friend, a nurse, had a nasty local reaction to the vaccine. Her arm and shoulder were very red, swollen and painful, all settled within a few days and she returned to work.
Thank you all for the kind words. They much appreciated xx
Hi I'll have the vaccine, but I have allergies so I'm hoping I can have the Oxford one. Plus I think the one out now I probably wouldn't be allowed it because of being on Benapali.
But my 98 year old mum had it 10 days ago. She was a little under the weather but her arm was really really sore for about 4 days.
So good job she had it in her left arm as she is right handed.
As I said to her dont think you are getting out of doing the dishes 🤣🤣🤣.;But mum is absolutely fine so my advise is get it.
But I'm totally going to have what is available, probmen is trying to find out what I can and cannot have.
Xx
You haven't replied to my 2nd comment, Frankiefocus??? The one about the figures. (You can see it easily if you click on the bell item to the left of HealthUnlocked higher up on your screen. )
From what I read on people's comments here that despite having RA and on Methotrexate that it is safe to have the Covid Vaccine? Or like any vaccine it is best to not to take my medicine at the same time for at least a week or more. Has anybody have any further views on this? I am happy to go ahead but a little about any side effects or complications?
Hi cpt13, I'm sorry but I'm not really qualified to try to answer your questions, and suggest that you read this whole thread, and the other thread referenced (healthunlocked.com/nras/pos... ) as I expect that would help you to decide. If you're still feeling confused, and this is a complex topic so you certainly won't be alone, maybe start a new thread with your question.
Oh, and I just found healthunlocked.com/nras/pos... which deals with MTX and covid injection. May be worth a look for you.
My comments to Frankiefocus were concerned with the accuracy of of his original post, as he seemed to be getting a figure wrong which would potentially give a misleading impression. He's changed it now, thank Heavens.
I'll definitely have it like you said there is not enough data as to how well it will work ,but I will be giving it a go x
