Covid 19 vaccine

I would love to know whether people with RA and taking DMARDS and Methotrexate will be able to have any future Covid 19 vaccine but no-one seems to be able to help. Has anyone else had any success finding out?

I seem remember reading somewhere that it's very unlikely to be a live vaccine, therefore I would/think hope the answer is likely to be "yes"...

That said, given that they're still in the relatively early stages of development, I very much doubt anyone could give a 100% answer one way or the other just yet ;-)

I think yes . I read somewhere. And why develop a vaccine for those most affected, elderly, immunocompromised, that we couldnt gave. No my guess is it's not a live vaccine. Most vaccines are attenuated ( not live) .

There are vaccines under development that work in very different ways so I’m sure there will be at least one we will be able to have.

Nobody could help because the vaccine is so far in the future......right now no vaccine against Covid 19 has been licensed for use....despite. Mr Trump’s claims.

We can just continue to take care,& as we appear not to be much more likely than the general public to succumb...not stress over something we have no control over.

But when the vaccine is approved I am sure we shall be included in the sector who will receive it.

Actually they are in stage 3 ( late on) ..trials! So pretty well on with development. Factories and manufacturing already set up . NHS potentially having staff vaccinated before the end of the year ...but we will see ....

Good Luck to them.....but you still won’t get me near one any time soon!

And I'll still be out there with my arm ( or whtever) ready 😂😂

I agree with you on this. I'm not an antivaxer but wouldn't touch this with a barge pole.

Me too..I’ll have any proven vaccine.....but not having this one until it’s been around the block a few times!

Good Luck & many thanks to those at the front of the queue.

Despite media stories, especially about China and Russia already vaccinating people, I would guess we are still a way off being able to safely vaccinate the general population with a vaccine that is proven to WORK SAFELY. I’m not putting myself forward to be a guinea pig just yet.

But when it does appear I see no reason why it won’t be suitable for us.

I am taking Baricitinib and Methotrexate both of which suppress the immune system, the former suppressing T cells. From what I have read about the possible vaccines they will be aiming to achieve a T cell response so that memory B cells can be made as antibodies alone are unlikely to create a long immunity. So surely the Baricitinib will stop this happening.

I think we will hear by December and it will be rolled out by spring

thats what I think

Being realistic as there has never ever been a successful vaccine discovered for any Covid virus whatever number it is ...I don’t think we should be relying on a vaccine any time soon.

Of course we can hope, but we have got to live our lives ...we cannot just hide indoors waiting.

Especially us oldies....enjoying life is precious.....we must make the best of it & not let Covid overwhelm us.

I look at things in another view after my daughter got it and was very very very ill, she got it from her childrens school, going to school

I count myself very lucky my daughter is on the mend when there are other people who haven't be so lucky.

also my mum died over a year ago, not by this virus but it still effects me and many others over a year on, its the people who have been left to cope with losing their loved ones too it effects

thankfully my daughter is now on the mend but still has a few issues with her chest

but I will put my hat on the line and say the good news of a vaccine comes in december and then starts to get rolled out over the spring by the military

Of course I am really sorry about your daughter,& I do understand your personal attitude.

Being realistic does not mean I am discounting a vaccine might be found, but I think putting too much hope on a vaccine next month, will cause so much angst and disappointment if it doesn’t materialise ....it might be better just to keep abreast of news about the different vaccines being trialled....but not think that in a few weeks we will be home & dry.

After all when a vaccine is approved and licensed it won’t mean nobody will ever catch COVID-19 again. The new vaccine, just like the Influenza vaccine protects people......but you can still catch what you are vaccinated against but you will hopefully have it less severely than those who are unvaccinated.

I had Influenza a couple of years ago for the first time ever ....it was truly horrible ....but I had been vaccinated so I can’t imagine how much worse it would have been had I not been vaccinated.

What I am trying to say is roll on a vaccine but please don’t put your life on hold thinking you’re going to get it in a couple of weeks or months time.

I hear what your saying, but trust me the good news comes in december, your see xx

I really hope you are right but even if it does I won’t be in the queue!

I will be as I did with the flu jab, not just for myself to make sure I wouldn't spread it to anyone else who could die from myself spreading it

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply toVeronicaF

But when you have other considerations besides Age and RD you listen to your doctor and that is what I am doing.

Of course I have the influenza vaccination every year ... and in fact I’m just getting in this year ....having it on Wednesday the day before we are locked down. But as I said it’s only a preventative ....I still got flu a couple of years ago. But if I’m locked down in my own home ...hopefully it won’t creep in to strike me again!

But Veronica even if they start vaccinating in December there will be many thousands of people ahead of us that will get it first so a long wait. Even if you have the vaccine that doesn’t mean you can’t pass the virus on does it?

by spring it will start to be rolled out to all

Yep.....but as far as I have seen....it is still not Licensed is it? The manufacturer says it is safe but without that license it can’t be released on the public.

But I honestly don’t think we will be anywhere near the front of the queue..... as I said in a post earlier today, Dr Sarah Jarvis was on the TV this morning..... saying that people on immunosuppressive drugs have not been included in any of the trial tests on this vaccine yet......so it isn’t known whether we will even be eligible for this first vaccine from the start.

After all when all the Front line people have been vaccinated twice there probably won’t be that that much of this vaccine left ....& presumably tests will have to be held on immunosuppressed people on whatever vaccine comes along afterwards?

I do know many people are counting on a vaccine but when you think about it ......we’ve had an influenza vaccine for years and people are still getting flu.

there will be a lot of negativity about it but it will happen, your see!!

I would imagine it will be like the Flu jab not a live vaccine so hopefully we can have it.

Take care and stay safe.
