Most people don’t realise how painful RA is. I really feel for people who are diagnosed in their teens or twenties , those years which should be full of fun and happiness blighted with chronic pain. I hope Sulphasalazine works for you. Like many of the drugs we’re offered it can take up to 12 weeks to kick in. That’s a long time when you’re in pain and probably suffering from fatigue as well. Good luck with it all.

Thank you Kalimers65 I will give it my best shot

I saw your other post where you mentioned naproxen. Are you taking a tummy protector tablet as well? Omeprazole ?My GP let me take naproxen for about 18months which is quite a long time and towards the end of that period I had really low haemoglobin, nearly to the point of needing a blood transfusion. Naproxen can cause some issues. My GP then told me to stop it and I began to feel better. In the last 4 months I was taking one naproxen tablet before I went to bed.I wouldn’t want you to have the problems I have had and probably you haven’t been on naproxen for very long if you’re recently diagnosed.

Sorry Kalimers65 just noticed you message yes I have been taking omeprazole and 2 naproxen for the last 3 weeks and have been told to keep taking them along with the sulfasalazine got my appointment for blood tests on 5th January

Good luck - Sulfasalazine has been the final piece of the puzzle for me so I'm a fan 👍I found that the side effects (other than the gloriously yellow wee!) have been short-lived. I take my morning ones halfway through my breakfast porridge after reading about that on here but I'm not sure if it is different to taking it after food (which I do at tea time) - lots of water is a good idea though 😉

in reply to Boxerlady

Hi boxerlady will do the same thanks and I have been drinking lots of water since being diagnosed something I never done before

Sulphasalazine was my first med in 1995 and worked marvellously for 8 years then I needed something a bit stronger. It took around 9 weeks before I felt a marked improvement and after 12 I started to feel much more like my former self and so much better. We are all different and patience is something we wish we had more of when it comes to RA! Hope you soon feel some relief.

Please keep us updated as to how you get on! The not being able to walk when you love walking, or even when you don't of course, is horrible! I've been able to walk, well kind of, after a year or more of not, I know it's mostly down to the prednisolone but am trying to remain hopeful that it will continue this way when the other meds kick in. All the very best and a Happy Christmas, and a very Healthy, Happy New Year! X

in reply to Niao

Niao I certainly will keep you updated thank you hopefully can get back to my walking something Happy Christmas and a brighter new year to all🎅 xx
